Hi, I'm 16 years old and I've been losing sleep whether if i have "aspergers" or not. My life has been hell and i think it's because of it. I don't have all the symptons, but have some major ones. For one, I'm very socially impared. It's not so much that i'm an awkward person, it's more that I'm incredibly unable to express myself. I barely talk at all and if I do, it's in a quiet, robotic and boring voice. I also can get very nervous in social situtaitons to thepoint where I'm unable to speak. I'm also not into a of things (narrowed interests). I only ever bother with a small handful of video games, movies and TV shows and am not the one to try things new. I also sometimes avert my eyes whenever talking with strangers. I've haven't had issues with emptahy or imagination.

Please. I really need some advice or insights. Please no "visit a doctor/therapist" comments because it's a hassle to visit a doc and I went to a therapist before
and she did not do a single thing. Thank you for reading.
Hugs from:

Hi bryce

I am glad that you feel comfortable enough to ask this question.

Members will be able to respond, from a personal opinion only and not from a medical point of view, of course, as we are not qualified to give a diagnosis of sort.

Perhaps members who have aspergers can come forward and share some of their insights with you.

I think that, if the issue is plaguing you enough to prompt you to sign up to psychcentral and ask the question, if you really need help, well, you kind of already know what has to be done, you've just asked us not to say it.

Take care of yourself and lets hope other members come forward.

Hello brycekick2, welcome to Psych Central.

Aspergers is usually picked up at school, there is a type of aspergers that becomes noticeable in the teenage years. I'm not saying you have it as it is impossible to know over the internet. It could be many things that are making you feel socially awkward such as an anxiety disorder. Here is a link to an online test you can do Autism / Asperger's Quiz You could talk to your teachers about your concerns and you will need to talk to your doctor also.

You have common anxiety. It is OK just to have a few interests, nothing wrong with that. Do not label yourself with any condition,. If you do, then you will have to see a doctor, therapist, or other recommended professionals!

In my honest and humble opinion social anxiety sounds more likely to me. You don't have all the symptoms of AS, but the ones you do have could be explained by other conditions. e.g. not making eye contact with strangers - social anxiety? You also sound very anxious about this in your post.
"Narrow interests" can mean a limited number of interests (which is common), but with AS narrow interests are also limited in scope e.g. dinosaurs (most likely with children), lighthouses (I read on another forum), steam engines, etc. It could be anything really. They also very intense, e.g. knowing all the latin names for dinosaurs, spending hours researching with no breaks, having to read every book and watch every tv programme on the subject.
I know you said no doctor comments, but no one on a forum can even say for sure what you may or not have. Being formally tested is the only way to know for sure.
