So the religious community as a whole hates it. The medical community think its a great addition. The general public love it. But theres still a little more than 40% of people who hate it.
I'm a small percentage, who in fact, uses marijuana 100% legally. My dad and step mom know, but my mom doesn't. I fear that if she knew, she'd forever think different of me. My family would do the same. It's my 'dirty little secret'. The feeling, if I had to explain it. Is like taking Xanax, a sleeping pill, pain pill (naproxen based), and a magic 'gain weight' pill for those who struggle with gaining weight. Why was I prescribed this drug? I have a condition that has issues with malnutrition. I'm expected to eat 4K calories on a working day. I can only eat about 2500 at most. That was the main thing. But the doctor did take in account my anxiety and joint pain (maybe even depression? Who knows) . I live in fear, of people finding out. Once they know, they'll figure you're always 'stoned' or high or some pothead. The way I use it would shock many people. I eat it or vaporize it (avoiding combustion avoids smoke, which makes it not harmful on the lungs). But mostly eat it. One unique thing about me eating it though? I know exactly how much I'm eating. It's not home made stuff that I get from a friend. Each and every night I ingest a small piece of chocolate square that contains no less, no more, 80 MG of THC/Cannabinoids. Professionally made, scientifically tested and accurate. I use a vaporizer similar to a vaporizer called the Volcano. This is science type stuff, not "Rollin a doobie in the shed". I, as a person, yes, I am messed up (physically and mentally), BUT, I am very well put together. A strong, proud Conservative who enjoys wearing designer clothing (Abercrombie and Fitch, True Religion, etc). I'm not bragging. Oh, and I in fact hate Bob Marley and what he symbolizes (same with 420). I'm showing how different I am from the stereotypical pothead (i.e. dread locks, loves bob marley, love hippy music, wears rainbow colors, talks hippy-ish or rapper-ish, etc) . The idea of growing up in the hippy times sounds fun, but sorta like a fun little road trip. Then I'd wanna return to being me. Like the idea of being in a hippy van with close friends sounds fun, but not for a lifestyle, just as a fun little adventure type thing.

Hello,
The only thing I know is that there still needs to be more research done on it. I know for a fact that the research done on MS patients has shown positively that it is helpful for symptoms. There has been some research on marijuana for some mental health conditions that show positive results Psych Central - Search results for Medical marijuana Opinions are varied as marijuana has been shown to make psychosis worse in schizophrenia but more research is being done all the time. I can understand you thinking people think of you as a pot head but this has been prescribed for you by a doctor, right.

Back in the middle of last century doctors would not prescribe morphine for terminally ill cancer patients because they (the doctors) were afraid the person would become addicted. Now it's accepted practice to give these patients heavy duty pain killers. I suspect that one day medical marijuana will be viewed the same way.
HelloWorld18, a question for you. Does the amount of THC you ingest give you a buzz? I have a condition that some times doc prescribe medical marijuana for. I'm concerned about side effects, just like I would with any med. It's interesting that you reported you ingest it. I have asthma and would not want to have to smoke it. |

When does the THC start to take effect when ingesting it orally? (I heard several hours.) Is the buzz greater than smoking? It's good that it's not interfering with your life. I've smoked it last five yrs (for a buzz) after not using it in 30 years (eg. high school). My lungs get irritated if I smoke it regularly and it's given me acid reflux. I've always loved listening to music when high. I've played guitar most of my life and the heightened senses (hearing) is just incredible when listening to music. I've also had severe mood disorder, dissociation since a teenager. I think pot was stronger in the 70s because it was grown outside (mexican gold): much better aroma, taste and high.

I grew up during the '70's and saw a lot of friends and family become wasted stoners, so I have not been a great advocate of mj use. It has become clear to me, however, that thc has very valuable medicinal properties. At this point in my life, after having had so many frustrating and disappointing experiences with psychiatrists I am seriously considering getting my mmj card and giving mmj a try to help me cope with my severe anxiety.

I have not been recommended/prescribed medical marijuana. But I do legally use it as I live in Colorado...and much of the reason why is to help with various ailments I experience. For one it helps immensely with digestive discomfort, reduces my over-all anxiety and helps relieve some of the depression symptoms, helps my appetite. Admittedly the reason I got into smoking it was enjoyment of getting stoned, then I noticed it helped with those other things.
Lol I guess I'd more resemble a typical 'stoner' than you do...though I like other 'hippy' music and metal more than Bob Marley, though cannot say I've heard any of his music I didn't like...gotta have various colorful clothes though not sure how one talks hippyish exactly but I probably do that to and no dreads yet. But yeah one should not have to fit that kind of image to feel comfortable using cannabis that is kinda screwy...sorta sad people who have known you for your life would change their entire perception of you because you use cannabis....you're still the same person with or without cannabis. Cant be healthy living in fear of anyone ever finding out though...that probably causes some unneeded stress, but I understand the concern of unwanted assumptions, stigma and what not over it as well. So not sure what to do about that.

I won't lie, i do smoke it on occasions. But in all honesty, the occasions that i do smoke it would have little, if any harmful effects on the lungs. its only harmful if its smoked on a weekly or daily basis. For the first few months i didn't have any money for a vaporizer, so i smoked it. But then when i got the money i immediately bought a vaporizer. i view smoking marijuana similar to smoking cigs. not as harmful, but still very harmful. marijuana contains tar and other bad adulterants when its smoked, vaporizing basically heats up the cannabinoids to their boiling point. I've researched a lot about marijuana before getting the medical card. Edibles digested by the liver change THC to 11THC (not delta 9, but 11 hydroxyTHC) . but eating normal, "unactivated" marijuana will barely, if any cause a high because it isn't THC. Its THCA.

They say that 30 MG of THC can get someone very high (like beginners) while people (like me) who've built a tolerance toward marijuana need around 80+ MG of THC. I use MM to get high. Sometimes a buzz. But just to get high because thats where the benefits are. It helps with my joints (yes, i have painful joints due to my CF), its helped me through Prozac withdrawal (yes, i myself decided to withdraw from it for about 2 months. miserable. but i couldn't have done it without MM), and most importantly it helps me eat (which is why i got it; main reason). i take provigil which is notorious for decrease appetite, so i take it during the day, and by night the marijuana allows me to make up for the day (calorie wise). 80 MG THC does get me high. Maybe a 8/10. 160 MG of THC gets me very high, about a 12/10 . it does help me with anxiety. before id take about 1 mg of xanax 3-5x weekly, now. I haven't used it for about 1 month. Edibles digested by the liver change THC to 11THC (not delta 9, but 11 hydroxyTHC) . but eating normal, "unactivated" marijuana will barely, if any cause a high because it isn't THC. Its THCA. for me if i eat on an empty stomach i can feel it in an hour, and it peaks within 2 hours or so. if I'm full from eating, it takes about 2-4 hours and peaks at around 4-6 hours after i eat it. smoking/vaporizing high (the cannabinoids are treated the same way as it involves the lungs, unlike edibles) lasts about 1-2 hours. an edible high lasts about 4-6 hours.

Depending on the state, you can't just get it for anxiety. It has to be a severe physical medical condition. I have CF, but other conditions include cachexia, ED, cancer, and a few others. my state wouldn't give me (nor my dr) mm for just anxiety. i have it severe too. THC isn't the ONLY thing good about marijuana. Its the cannabinoids. In fact, there is a 100% THC medication out there called marinol and that by no means is equal or close to equal as marijuana. The thing that makes marijuana so great in comparison to marinol (THC) is CBD, CBN, and THC. Canabidoil, Cannabinol, and tetrayhyrocanabinol Edibles digested by the liver change THC to 11THC (not delta 9, but 11 hydroxyTHC) . but eating normal, "unactivated" marijuana will barely, if any cause a high because it isn't THC. i feel like that was a poor mistake i had made. because now, i feel i pushed the fast forward button on life, and i wasn't truly able to enjoy it or have memorable memories. i still use it every day, but at night. once people know i use MM (some people do know, and i know their opinions have changed a bit), they'll think I'm always high. my friend who i work with always asks if I'm high. Its discouraging. Because i'm not. Marijuana in my opinion does lower inhibition, but so do other medications i take like Xanax. first time i used marijuana (a year ago), i was surprised because i felt that same feeling before. then i changed my opinion about it thinking its not a big deal. cause its not.

I have no issues with "medical marihuana", in PILL form, prescribed by a real doctor and treated as any other controlled substance. I do have an issue with it otherwise, as it is simply an entre to recreational use which I oppose. Why? Because there is considerable clinical evidence that it can produce adverse neurological side effects, especially in younger people. In other words, it can rot your brain. Also, in urban areas with a lot of drug trafficking, weed becomes a gateway to other drugs. I have overheard "hey if you like weed, you should try this...or that", on many occasion. It never leads to a good result.

I live in one of the states that legalized medical marijuana early on. It will soon be legal for all adults, medical card or not, probably all over the country. Just like alcohol.
I know many people with MM cards. Most of them were old stoners who wanted to get high without risk of arrest and they proceeded to use it excessively. You state you have a nutritional problem that requires you to eat a very high calorie diet, something that is hard for you to do. Wasting disorder -- where people lose weight even when they take in adequate calories -- is one of the illnesses that medical marijuana works for. It works better than any other drug for this problem. I'm neutral to cool on medical marijuana, in general. But you have nothing to be ashamed of. MM helps wasting disorder. It also helps the painful spasms caused by M.S., glaucoma, and disorders that cause the body to excessively burn calories. As long as you learned your limits and don't overdo it, I could not under any circumstances look at you with disapproval for using MM. BTW, I've read that for people who use it for wasting disorders, ingesting it in a caloric food, like cookies or brownies, is the best way to take it. I wish you the best and hope your health gets stable and improves. |

The only study to have shown that it kills brain cells is when the scientists literally suffocated the lab rats with smoke. Of course, when you're suffocated with smoke you don't get oxygen. No oxygen kills brain cells. Marinol is a prescription drug that is the synthetic, pure form of THC. Something found in marijuana. Marinol is used as an appetite increaser, but it has been proven it doesn't work nearly as well as medical marijuana. You're right its not good for young individuals, as theyre brains are still maturing. But once you hit the ages of 18-20 years old, most of the brain is almost fully matured to the point that marijuana will have no adverse effects. Except in cases that a person has a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia. Marijuana isn't anymore or less of a gate way drug than other prescription drugs like Xanax or Morphine. The high marijuana provides isn't at all in comparison to the highs of other drugs like cocaine, ecstasy, shrooms, or even heroin. Most marijuana users just stick with marijuana, and don't 'upgrade' to more serious drugs (cocaine, heroin, etc). If marijuana is a gate way drug, it's because society made it a gateway drug. Society has used fear to discourage the use of marijuana, when someone finally tries marijuana, they are completely shocked because its nothing like what they've been told. That was my response. Before I tried marijuana, I was scared and nervous but also excited. I fell victim to societies use of fear to discourage marijuana use, so I believe every single thing that i read about how marijuana was bad. But when I actually tried it. I was shocked. I didn't die. I didn't become paralyzed or go blind, or I didn't not have self control. I had full control of everything I heard, said, and did. I feared that I would black out, and that i wouldn't have any control of anything that I did, said, or saw. I feared I'd have bad hallucinations (or a bad trip). When I tried it. My vision changed to become more sensitive to light, and color became slightly more vivid. It was calming. I breathed easier. It was a feeling i knew all too well. It was a feeling that I had experienced several times. It's like taking a few pumps from my inhaler (breathing easier), it was like taking my Xanax prescription (no anxiety, calm), it was as if I took 2 Advil (pain was decreased greatly, from knee and wrist joint pain, to lower back pain), and it was like I had enhanced appetite. But by no means was it a "wonder drug" like people claim it to be. It was just a wonderful feeling though. I was happy, it was as if I had taken a super large dose of Prozac. Using marijuana isn't at all like other drugs when it comes to 'chasing the dragon'. Yes, you do become dependent if you use it daily for months (but in a sense people become dependent on anti depressants). Yes, you will experience slight withdrawal effects, most serious one includes Insomnia. I do wish I could go back to the time that I used marijuana for the first, second, third, and fourth time. Why? Not because i'm chasing the dragon. But because it was a memorable experience. Something I'll never forget. Marijuana has never killed a single person. That's why legalization is well under way in the US. This is perhaps the only drug in human history that will ever be legalized for recreational use, like alcohol. This will NOT happen with any other drug. The only drug I can for see getting a loser leash is drugs like Ayahuasca (common in religious ceremonies, esp, in S. America) and maybe even LSD for therapy related uses (esp for people who have to cope with life threatening conditions like cancer, where someone is given months or years to live). Well, maybe one last one, but MAYBE, and that one is shrooms. I know it sounds crazy, but shrooms is PROVEN to be very helpful for a small group of people who experience EXTREME headaches (I forgot the medical condition, but these are extreme headaches that have led people to commit suicide. That's how painful they are). I'm not some 19 year old who thinks weed is Gods gift to humanity. I'm very unbiased about marijuana, I look at the pure facts. I don't go to sites like ilovepot.com or ihatepot.com. I research marijuana through proven scientific data. Which is why I rarely smoke marijuana, because it is in fact comparable to smoking cigarettes (not as bad, but comparable).

I much prefer eating edibles, it lasts longer and is more strong towards hunger, pain and even sleep. My doctors have told me that I require a minimum of 4,000 calories a day. But that was a year ago when I was in HS. I can only imagine what the amount is now that I have a strenuous, physically demanding job and I workout 3x a week. Its probably gotta be at around 5,000 calories a day or something. A year ago, I was in school for 6 hours a day, slept a ton, and worked out 1-2x a week. Now, I work around 30 hours a week pushing carts, cleaning bathrooms and cash registers, and bagging and lifting groceries WHILE working out 3-4x a week (thanks to the help of Provigil, the only way I've been able to stay energized), so thats why I think my doctors will say I need a minimum of 5000 calories a day (it makes sense, to me at least lol). Just because I have a high calorie demand DOESNT mean i can eat 3-4 McDouble Cheeseburgers and call it a day. I should still eat healthy. That makes it very tricky for me. So on my own, on a good day I can eat 3,000 calories a day. On a typical day around 2,000-2500 calories a day. What I do is if I decide to vaporize/smoke marijuana, I'll do it right after I'm done eating a big meal. Because then, I somehow get even more room to eat. Whereas if I do it before, I only eat a little bit. Heres an analogy. Without marijuana. I can eat a big bowl of cereal and be full. If I smoke marijuana before I eat, I can eat a big bowl and a half of cereal. IF i smoke marijuana after i had my big bowl of cereal, I can eat another big bowl of cereal. So i eat the most when I've already eaten without being under marijuana's influence. It's weird but yeah.. I wanted to clarify, that if I say smoke, I either mean vaporizing or actually smoking. BUT I ALWAYS TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM SMOKING. I only smoke if I cannot eat edibles, or if I don't have a working vaporizer. Right now, my vaporizer broke so I am saving up to buy a new, better one. So I'm mainly sticking with edibles, but i have been smoking more than i usually ever do. its not good. but as long as its short term and its kept to a maximum of 1-2x a week, it won't have a serious impact on my health (aka my lungs). but smoking and vaporizing are all the same, except vaporizing has no negative health effects. It's still absorbed through the lungs either way and processed the same, vaporizing just does all that without the harmful tar and carcinogens that are released when combustion of the plant occurs (aka. taking a lighter and burning the plant. which also wastes most of the cannabinoids, so if you want to make the BEST most money saving use of the cannabinoids in the marijuana plant, use edibles).

I feel they should legalize it for those who really need it I know many people who use pot as a medical drug. I know many with there cards who just use it to get high they can grow it, they use it and 60% of them sell what they dont need so they are profiting off of there illness which I think is wrong . If you need it then use it properly if not put it down and use the right meds for you. I have also seen the pot card get a lot of people really high and they are all full blown addicts which this business of medical weed is starting another problem full blown drug addicts a good friend started out with his card using it 2 times per day now he cant grow it fast enough so he supplements with weed he buys from a dealer. This pot addiction started from the medical weed has gotten him into pain killers, crack, and heroin I have seen this way to many times and I have seen how it has ruined people a med student I know probably one of the smartest pre med student I have ever seen go down the tubes all because he got his pot card he was on track to be a doctor that delivers babies and now he sits around all day getting high on all kinds of stuff. To bad I sees the pot card as a problem it is producing addicts by the boat load . Do I support it yes for this who "truly" need it just cause I have bipolar does not mean I need pot. i filled put the paper work and sent it in got the doctors approval just to see if I could get it I suffer dearly from anxiety and hypo mania and i was told on the phone Id get my card in a week or less, still waiting but you know what i dont need it my meds do there job and so do I .

My opinion is, if it helps use it. I've been on all kinds of medication, that don't even work. The side effects and possible liver damage these meds can cause aren't worth it.

They don't define rot your brain very well, it's very generic labeling despite it from an article I don't believe everything the internet says. I am for it, for recreational and everything else, for the fact it keeps the people who should be in jail without putting minors or other people who don't belong in jail in prison for a very small possession charge. I had personal friends had to fend for their lives and get acclamated to prison life and having a felony for marijuana and it's not fair that the federal law means nothing as in enforcement it's just a blanket.
Rather marijuana was banned originally not for health reasons, but it was linked to communism in the 1920's. Not even joking, it's weird when you read history that marijuana, cocaine, and opium not heroine, but just opium were legal in the US way before this war on drugs. This war on drugs is political and socio economical by nature from the get go. From communism to healthcare, from it leading you to go to eventually to heroin. In truth, that's just ignorant. It's the person who chooses to do those drugs get into that life style even teenagers now a days at least what I'm exposed to know that when I was in highschool. People don't smoke marijuana and decide in a month to do coke. I mean some people do, but they are the really naive people who don't understand what damage drugs can do. I'm not saying you should do them. Like I know from personal experience that, it's your own choice and your body you should know the risks before doing them. It is the same for prescription pills which I stopped taking, I don't take psych meds. I refuse to, they would have to force it in me. I've seen more damage done both by harder drugs that are illegal and psych meds all the time than marijuana. The only thing that can be harmful is mental health, some people can't take the hallucinatory properties of the THC and for me I can't take the over powering dopamine. Which dopamine can cause hallucinations from other inhibitors and psych drugs that are serotonin inducers for like anti depressants and some anti psychotics. I find some useful purposes of the medical stuff, but I find it's a bit too early. It surely works, but our medical treatments must get better in time before jumping wagon all the way. I want to add, that in my state they are talking about legalizing it here on this year's ballot, but I find why this stuff is still illegal in many states still. Is because it's ignorance pure ignorance of what this society teaches and shoves away. It's not how things are what you here in school all the time, and I didn't learn that from doing marijuana. I read a lot. Marijauna like anything you can smoke puts strain on the lungs, because you are smoking. Not that it's the drug itself, it's no different if it's tobacco, synthetic tobacco, hookahs, and meth, crack whatever smokable stuff. The other thing marijauna is wayy safer than alcohol. I'd rather see smoking bars with weed, than more drunk people getting in wrecks. You can be too baked to drive, it's kinda scary when someone who is operating the vehicle is kinda zoned out. Not that he can't see road or impaired his mind wanders and freaks out at inappropriate times. My last point is that, it will cut funding money to fulling this drug cartel war. I find it kinda strange we are technically arming these cartels from the south american countries "unintentionally". I won't go into conspiracies and don't believe in them, but I do find that weird how our weapons are shipped to them to fight the drugs that are coming into our land. You see that if you legalize weed, you prevent a lot of drug related death's and injuries from bad drug deals in very populated urban areas. Personal experience as well. Despite me not having a chart or a graph or that type of proof doesn't mean it doesnt' happen all the time. We have a lot of shootings from drug deals as setups to kill off clientel, you go to the dealer buy a bag of weed and next thing you know your body got shot and hauled into a dumpster or a creek to get dropped off at. This definitely happens in my city. I just stopped ignoring what's really happening first hand and seeing it rather than saying, "oh it's bad for you." hiding behind closed doors from old world views that were very skewed from the get go. That's my two cents. |

Also as far as I can tell there is no substantial evidence that cannabis causes neurological damage...some people theorize it but as far as they can tell it may have an effect on brain development but they don't know what that effect is, it certainly does not 'rot' your brain if anything alcohol probably is more likely to do that and everyone seems fine with that being legal so I don't get how people oppose a less harmful substance being legal as it makes no sense for it to be a crime for someone to relax and smoke a joint regardless of their reason....as for it contributing to mental health issues all they have found is correlation which could also be partially accounted for by people self medicating untreated conditions or conditions that aren't being treated effectively. As for weed being a gateway drug, I cannot say I experienced that...first drug I ever really remember having much interest in was LSD when I was like 15 then tried it when I was 20 as I was curious about it for 5 years but before that drank, smoked weed a couple times and started smoking cigarettes don't even know what the 'gateway' was.

I consider that marijuana - is the extreme measures in any situation. Patient must fight the disease. But when the situation is critical and the person is about to die, marijuana eases his suffering, in this case it is humanly.

The cops who enforce these laws I know personally rather not spend time putting these people in jail, but they get paid anyways, so it's corrupted completely by the drugs they get. Sometimes we have reports of cops reselling the drugs somewhere else or burning/smoking it after arresting the people who possessed it. This isn't an uncommon thing too, and that didn't come from a friend, it came from an local county officer who pulls people over to arrest them for drug paraphenillia charges and felony drug possesion charges so on. They all assume without even taking the time to understand what they are saying that marijuana has to be feared. That's why the government made propoganda videos before my time about marijuana. Seriously watch old say no to drugs about weed from the 90's on back. You'll get the trend what I mean, it was all for scare tactics and went off of loose info and usually was false on the other stuff. Just things that happen on face value to keep people in line. See it all comes back to the individual and what I was getting too before getting off track there are dealers that will push harder drugs and keep on going to make more sales on taking other people's addiction issues for profits. Like a pharmacist to a person with a diabetic heart thyroid problem equivalent for regular check ups to the dealer. Then in many cases they'll kill you off if you come off as bad business and give you a discount on heroin and you OD and die. This happens up the road from me regularly. I grew up around drugs and I know far more than most people when I was 12. I wasn't proud of it, and certainly did like the environment, but I found a lot of information that was very helpful. That the most important thing if you buy drugs for yourself you should know what you are putting into your body. Legalizing weed would cut that joe down the gas station out of a job at least for laced weed issues. I've had stuff laced and it was scary. I don't do weed regularly, but very seldomly. I feel a dispensary is much safer than the local drug dealer. Seriously think about it, what if you had a child who does weed and you don't know who he is buying it from or where it came from. I mean, I wouldn't condone the behavior and wouldn't shame my child if they got to the age and started doing drugs, the fact they weren't honest and careful would upset me more than doing weed. It could be their best friend, who maybe as much as a drug pusher as the 40 year old man making a quick buck. It's a matter of trust when it comes to that anymore. I find that sketchy trust is the reason I don't bother doing it much, I'm afraid sometimes if I had money on me I'd get to buy some weed for a friend and i to share and then I get robbed at gunpoint for my money which happened to one of my friends or be led to get jumped and beat to death. Like I wish they legalize it, so this madness can stop I'm afraid of some of my friends getting shot for a a couple grams of purp. |
