I was prescribed Escitalopram on Thursday for anxiety. I'm taking 5mg for the first week then 10mg after that. I'm having pretty bad acid since I started them. I'm also really sleepy all of the time. Has anyone else taken this medication and had similar symptoms? Do they go away?

I've been having headaches as well but I can't tell if it's because of the pills or just other stress in my life. Any input would be appreciated

Teacup381, I have been on Escitalopram in the past and my end dose was 20 mg. It sounds like your prescriber has started you on a low dose which is good since it is a SSRI and inhibits the reuptake of serotonin. I did not have any problems with acid, being sleepy or headaches as I was started on 10 mg and eventually was increased to 20 mg. I would contact your prescriber about these issues. It could be your stress and the current reasons that you were put on the medication or sometimes certain meds are not right for us. Usually early side affects do go away but if you are suffering I would make that call. Hope you feel better.
Thanks for this!

I had similar issues minus the acid. I'm very sensitive to chemicals. I started at 5 then to 10 then to 20 then 15 and back to 10. Pdoc also put me on Wellbutrin when at 20mg do to the fatigue. For the headaches I found drinking plenty of water helped a lot. The first time I was at 10mg it made me suicidal. That's y Pdoc doubled. But when I was so tired she put me in the Wellbutrin at 100mg and it didn't work then she put me on 150 still tired. Finally she put me to 300mg and it helped but the Escitalopram had to be lowered from 20 slowly to a therapeutic 10. I'm not sure this combo works well considering I have very bad days with a few good mixed in. I also lack motivation to do anything. I see Pdoc today and I'll see what se says.

I started 2 weeks ago with 10mg, but I don't have any side effects.
IT can be caused by the escitalopram, if it doesn't get less in two weeks, then it would be good to contact your doctor about it.

Thanks everyone. It hasn't been as bad the last couple of days but I'm still pretty exhausted. I started 10mg today so I guess I will see how that goes. I'm going to call him next week to let him know how it's going
