This is a bit embarrassing for me to discuss, however I must as it really bothers me. I am an adult who lives in the same household as my mother and we are fairly close. However, at times I find her to be very inappropriate. She oftens rubs her breast region in front of me or even before while in the car together, and I find this utterly disgusting and revolting. It's not something that happens once I a while, but on too many occasions to count. I find it odd as she would never do this behavior in public, but she does it in front of me and finds it acceptable. Even after, I have told her I am disgusted by this and would appreciate it if she does not continue to do so in front of me. She said "I need to get a life, and seek help".

I am wondering if it is just me or does anybody else find this behavior odd? I will state that I don't like being touched in that region myself. I am just at odds with this and wondering if I should seek help for this, amongst other things.

Thank you in advance for a response.

Your Mother needs help, amongst other things. Not you.

How old is she? She might have an itch that needs looking at by a doctor.

I agree. It's hard to say this is "inappropriate behavior" meant for you. People have annoying habits. It's something we all live with. I think you should try not to be watching when you think it may be about to happen.

I can see how that would make you uncomfortable. Maybe being firm with her may help. Hope she stops soon since that really is revolting.

From your description it's unclear whether this is done as a form of self gratification or she is merely scratching an itch, irritation, or whatever. You did say that this is not something she does in public, so it couldn't be a matter of public embarrassment on your part.

It seems to me that the relationship we have with family members is much more casual...perhaps even "unguarded"...than the relationship we have with others. Keep in mind, you mother changed your poopy diapers, so you certainly have few secrets from her. I guess she's entitled to scratch whatever itches her while in your presence.
