So I was thinking about this. Most of us have it, including me. But could this be seen by doctors, or just any other people as the glorification of taking prescriptions? Some of us take some pretty 'hardcore' stuff. Some of my friends say I take hardcore medications, and some of them think I am drug seeker.

So I have a condition called Cystic Fibrosis, and my belief is 70% of my problems branched off from having CF. But aside from that, I'm trying to make me a perfect me. I'm trying to get rid of my anxiety through Xanax, my daily tiredness with Ritalin, and my daily depression with Prozac. If all these drugs are there for us to feel better, why shouldn't we take advantage of what we have? 200 Years ago they didn't have Prozac to help depression, but now we do. So since we do, why not take that amazing opportunity to help us? After all, aren't medications there to HELP us be the best we can be? I'm not saying superhuman.

Am I making sense? So this is a multipart type question lol, remember main paragraph and title :P

A lot of people put their medications in their signature to let others know what they have experience with. Its not really glorifying them, its putting up a sign that says hey! I know this drug! Ask if you have questions! I'm sure there are other reasons but that is one ofthe bigger reasons.
Thanks for this!

Hi HelloWorld18,

No I don't believe anyone is glorifying drugs here, we are a self help community helping each other. Many people have their diagnosis/medications listed as a way to show what their issues are, part of sharing our issues. I believe medication (and the evidence shows) that it is very useful for people with a variety of mental health issues as is psychotherapy. Everyone is different of course but I believe in building up a toolbox of coping strategies to help through the tough times in life.

It is what it is I guess. They're anonymous ... if they weren't (and of course many can be found via what info they give here anyway) I suppose their pdocs would advise against it.

I'd like to not see them listed... though here for support, we need to think positively and "normal" ? as possible... keeping other thoughts out of our minds... having a list of disorders or drugs, IMO, counters all that good effort.

But then... like I said... it is what it is and if someone needs to do that, so be it.

Well, that's a legitimate type of question HelloWorld18 !

I had my DX and MX listed the next day I joined PC, which isn't that far. I noticed some people here do that and thought what a nice idea. It is just a way to show what our issues, diagnoses and experience are with certain meds. I did contact few people who have similar DX and MX to mine, and it was great to share and receive feedback. That's why I joined here. But then again, after sometime, I started feeling a slight discomfort looking at my sign every time I post something. As JD said, we need to think positively and normal. So I may remove them from my sign if it really started to annoy me.

the only thing i find issue with is stating the people with mental illness are somehow not normal...i think that stating mental illness renders one abnormal contributes to the ongoing stigma...i take meds...i do not list them in my sig. due to a personal choice...my doctor once told me that if i had diabetes that required me to take meds, would i be so hard on myself...listing rx and dx in sig. is a personal choice and nothing to be ashamed of...that's my two cents anyways...

There are some who want to be medicated, and feel like there are on an street drug. Then there are those who need to be on medication.

Well on a basic level mental illness and/or mental conditions do prevent normal functioning in the brain...I don't think it is to mean to have any mental ailment makes one a total freak/monster or lessor, but to claim mental conditions don't cause any abnormalities seems to kind of defeat the purpose of differentiating between what it is to have a mental condition vs. not having one and thus functioning 'normally'.

its not normal lol

depression is caused by less serotonin, which is not normal

anxiety is caused by an abnormal amount of gaba, is is not normal

im not proud i have depression and anxiety and other issues, i wish i didn't. thats what medication do, is it helps most of us to be normal to some extent whether its emotionally, psychiatrically, or any other mental issue.

we shouldn't be embarrassed though. its just like having cancer, they didn't choose to have cancer, we didn't choose to have too little serotonin in our brains.

I don't think someone putting their meds in their signature is glorifying drugs at all. I do it, along with putting my diagnoses in my signature, just to kind of identify myself, since we are all on here (or the great majority of us) because we have psychological and/or psychiatric problems. I view it as a way of letting people know who I am a little better.

I put my Rx (and Dx) in my signature as a way to provide context to people reading my posts.

if our car is broken we fix it, if our brain is broken we can fix it to some extant with meds too. there is no shame in it, it gives us a better quality of life.

I think if you list your drugs then you should list the side effects you experience with them. Like "I gained 60lbs since taken this" or "I have kidney failure since taking this" to see if there is a common thread with each med.
