I am just wondering if anyone can explain what a diagnosis of personality difficulties mean. I do have a major depressive disorder and have problems with dissociation. My psychiatrist has put personality difficulties on my care plan. Is it the same as personality disorder?.
Thank you in advance if you are able to explain this to me.

You really need to ask your doctor for a clear answer. To me, it sounds like your p-doc is indicating that s/he thinks you might have some traits of a personality disorder. But there are many pd's.

Aloha,

There are SO many PD's to choose from. During a depressive episode, many of us demonstrate unusual behaviors or coping mechanisms that CAN be attributed to a PD BUT... that doesn't mean we HAVE a PD! Sometimes a Pdoc will use a diagnosis code for a PD in order to prescribe a certain medication and have it covered by insurance etc... I think we sometimes get caught up or worried when another "label" is added to our diagnosis. (Not that depressed people (like me) always think the worst about everything!) Don't hesitate to ask your doc about the reason for the code but its probably/hopefully nothing to worry about. Sending hugs and best wishes

yes shellebee... in the Uk personality difficulties is just another way of saying you have personality disorder symptoms, a different way of saying you have personality disorders... the UK goes by the diagnostic manual IDC. since I am in america and we go by the DSM 5 your standards of what is personality disorder / symptoms may be different that ours,

therefore my suggestion is contact your treatment providers. they will tell you what problems in you got you diagnosed with personality difficulties.

I also agree with cloudy. the dr did this for one of my children. he based the diagnosis around the requirements of the prescription.
