Hello! I have always been incredibly interested in dreams because I seriously NEVER remember mine. Honestly I can't ever remember having a nightmare, good dream, mediocre dream, or any dream. I have looked into "dreaming strategies" such as trying to fall asleep with a certain topic on your mind, waking up and immediately noting anything you remember on a piece of paper, pinning a note on my ceiling that says "dream", but the fact is I never remember my dreams. I'm sure I have them, I just never remember them even immediately after I wake up. Well I've been a cigarette smoker for the past 7 years and I finally quit with help from a nicotine patch. The first night I had a patch on I actually remembered my dream. It wasn't a great dream, as I thought my girlfriend had cheated on me, and I woke up and kicked her out of bed and threw a fit because I had never had a dream that I could remember before. The next night I dreamed that my mother was in a bad car accident and woke up and called my dad to check up on her, and he thought I was on drugs. The point is not that I had bad dreams, but that I had dreams! I do not want to rely on a nicotine patch to be able to remember my dreams though, so I am curious if there is any kind of natural drug/medicine that can help me remember my dreams?

No idea. That is a side effect of the nicotine patch as well as Wellbutrin/Zyban (antidepressant also used for quitting smoking). But not good to use either merely to dream. Most people don't like the dreaming side effect since it is supposed to caused messed up dreams but I liked it. Also makes me wonder the neural mechanisms involved? I assume that Zyban causes the same symptom since it must work indirectly on nicotine receptors? Interesting.

See? You do have dreams. Kicking girlfriend out of bed, means you are kicking the habit. The habit was like someone cheating on you. Bad accident means change as well. When one makes changes in life dreams will be more intense.

And, it is a very common side effect of nicotine patches, it is not an effect of kicking a habit. I have kicked many habits and never dreamed the way I did on the nicotine patch or wellbutrin... It is a function of nicotine, not lack of nicotine (when you smoke you dont have nicotine throughout the night). This is why most people do not wear the nicotine patch at night, most people dont like it. |

We will let the one who posted the dream decide who is right. Each of us are different, yes medications do affect dreams, but does not produce the same dream in each person. Dreams can be literal. Dreams are all about our feelings. They are how our minds process our days events, feelings, and changes in self. They serve as Great Mirrors for us to look into.
