This round of depression started about six months ago and in those six months I've lost almost 30lbs. I just don't get hungry or want to eat most of the time. I might eat a small something maybe once a day but some days nothing at all. Does anyone else go through this?

I gain weight during depression - a lot of it.
I tend to eat out of boredom. It doesn't help that when I am depressed I don't go out or do anything leaving me sitting at home with nothing to do. |

I lose weight when depressed, which is good because I need to, but saddens me because I know the depression is back. I get excited when I start feeling hungry again, because that's a sign I'll be feeling better and fatten back up.

A few months ago my self destructive urges got really bad and I went from about 135lbs to 115lb. I'd get randomly or not so randomly angry with myself, I would go to the fridge and be disgusted by the thought of food and would take my inner frustration out on myself and refuse to eat much. I would eat maybe dinner. Told my parents after I started to get better (appetite is a raging monster now lol) and now I feel like they're Uber conscious of how much I eat and get real worried. Feel like I shod feel bad but not really

Yes. I have zero appetite.
Then I get manic and food smells better. I may be too rushed to eat, but when I do, everything tastes amazing. |

I gain weight cause I eat looking for gratification, and I drink more alcohol which puts on the pounds.

I have that problem too. I am hungry, but I can't eat. Then people comment on my being thin and I feel like "Oh yeah thanks for pointing that out"

I remember the worst spells of depression and anxiety. I did not eat much. I totally lose my appetite over almost anything. I simply cannot eat if I feel too bad. That said, I don't lose weight over it. I don't know why, but I guess nothing good is ever meant to come out of this suffering... I could stand to lose a little.

At first depression made me binge on food. My depression was moderate back then, but my eating disorder was huge.
Then this year a very big severe and horrible bout of depression hit me and I lost 15 lbs in 2 months. I have no appetite. But both losing weight and gaining weight can be symptoms of depression. It just depends on the person this horrible disease touches. |

It depends on my depression flare sometimes I'll gain 20 pounds and others I'll lose 40. Strange I know.

When I depressed, I eat more sweet stuff than usual. It's usually bits of chocolate, chocolate cake, ice cream or anything I would avoid or usually eat in moderation. I tend to avoid proper food.

When I am mildly or even moderately depressed I tend to eat too much. When I am severely depressed I am not hungry and lack the motivation to eat.

I forgot to add that when I am swinging up and out of Depression I experience a period of poor appetite. It lasts about 6wks and I experience a drastic weight loss - like 2 dress sizes. But it doesn't last. After 4-6wks I resume my appetite but; unlike when I am depressed, it is regular, healthy, and controllable. But yes, when I am Depressed or Anxious I eat very badly, get flabby and pack on weight (I experience 'Atypical Depression' a symptom of which is gaining 10-15% of body weight during a bout with Depression).
