I suffer from depression and BPD. I recently came off my meds and since then life has become somewhat of a chore. What should I do? Be on meds for the rest of my life?

Yes, if it makes you feel better.

I don't know how much more better it makes me feel. Meds kind of just makes me forget that I'm not where I want to be in life in which case forgetting may not be such a good idea.

Medications are tricky. Certainly they are a Godsend if one is in crisis and not managing well, but I do understand what you mean about becoming complacent and just going with the flow. I am currently doing well unmedicated…but there were many years where medication was the only way I could cope.

I would suggest that you speak to a therapist and look into alternative strategies and therapies whilst trying a new generation medication for your needs. Also having an open dialogue with your therapist or treating doctor with regard to pros, cons.. and side effects should help you find a compromise.

I don't believe one should fiddle on their own with their meds rather they should consult their prescribing doctor.

This is a subject very near to me. I have experienced weight gain due to medication; and yes, numerous times I have had the thought of just ceasing to take the offending drug. But, I am then reminded of what my life was like before the medication and I realise living that way again is even worse than the loathing of my physical appearance. I have begun adjust to the fact that this is what I must accept and become accustomed to.
