I haven't been through this before, so I'm hoping you can help me know what to expect. I have an upcoming assessment with a psychiatrist, that they expect to take 90 minutes. I've been living with anxiety for years, and have recently discovered that depression and ADHD may also be contributing... I discussed my anxiety with my doctor for the first time in late 2014.

I've pursued seeing a psychiatrist, because I've tried a number of meds and haven't had much luck thus far. I'm also longing for a diagnosis... I can take whatever it is... I just want to know what I'm dealing with.

I'm sure there are folks who have gone through this before... can you help me understand what to expect?

Thanks!

Hello. When I had to do my assessment with my pdoc, I had to answer TONS of questionnaires for anxiety and mood disorders. She asked about my history too and after the assessment (took 2 hours), she told me I had moderate social anxiety. I got my other DXs later. But if you are concern about ADHD, bring it up so you receive questions about ADHD symptoms and stuff. Hope you find the help you need Assessment - What to Expect?.

Social anxiety disorder, GAD, OCD, and panic attacks

Lexapro, 10 mg

Be patient and kind to yourself, acknowledge that the process may take some time and also some ammendments. The symptoms of some dx can blend in with other dx so the initial assessments might not be bang on the money at first (that's not to say it never happens... I guess I'm just a 'prepare for the worse, hope for the best' kind of guy).

Recently after a fair bit of trial/error and specialist assessment received my dx of ASD... was a long road (keep being told by my care team that my issues 'are complicated' ) but I got to the end of the journey.

I know how this might add to anxiety (hasn't always helped with mine), but sometimes being forewarned in forearmed.

It's pretty low key and just a lot of questions about your history and symptoms
