Hi Wandering! But of course! I talk to myself so i can hear myself think out loud when i am trying to figure something out or work on it. By talking i remember what it is that i am doing. Older generation does it all the time, that's why they like quiet so they can hear themselves think (out loud that is)... LOL.. tc and blessings

I don't usually think out loud, but rather create scenarios and talk them out loud

Hey Wandering Soul
I do talk out loud. It's a way of fighting loneliness. And the scenarios thing, I know this as well. I'll daydream and get so involved with my imagination (and imaginary interlocutors) that I start to talk out loud and wave about and stuff. There's a term for this actually, it's called "Maladaptive Daydreaming" (sry I know you're not into the labeling thing) . The name sounds negative I don't see it that way though. If you're that socially isolated it would practically make you go insane, daydreaming helps to survive. -/-

I do even at the grocery store and then I talk back too, remind myself the cats aren't at the store with me so I should not be talking out loud

For sure. Especially when I'm upset. I crack myself up, too and laugh. Sometimes, I don't even care if people see me talking to myself. It's fine-- the least of our worries.

Of course. Me and myself have quite a bit in common, we were bound to converse eventually.
During my time at the vocational school, one of my roommates told me she thought I might be insane. I thought it was be because I was, as I always did after sweeping, scanning the floor for dirt-specks and stray hairs like a dog who'd forgotten where he'd buried his bone, but she assured me that was not the case. It was because I talk to myself. "Doesn't everyone though?" I asked. "Yes," She replied, "but not like that!" I told her she should hear what stays in my head.
My other roommate would sometimes get defensive, thinking my arguments with myself or comments were directed towards her. "Then why did you say 'such-and-blah'?" She would ask. Do you really want me to waste your and my time on telling you, verbatim, the debate I was having with myself?
It's the arguing with myself that people find strange mostly, but I enjoy looking at things from different perspectives, and so I will take two sides and weigh them against one another.

I do it plenty. When I'm working on an idea, speaking some of the thoughts out loud helps me to add some degree of definition, in the same way that writing things down does. (Plus I like to keep my vocal chords limber throughout the day, so that if my first shared conversation happens later on I don't sound like I just woke up!)

"You will always have to live with yourself, and it is to your best interest to see that you have good company — a clean, pure, straight, honest, upright, generous, magnanimous, companion." ~Orison Swett Marden

To which if it's not already implied I would add "who provides good conversation."

I try to be careful about it when in mixed company though. I used to share an office with a colleague who did it frequently in a tone which did not make it quite clear whether she was looking for me to comment, but whenever I asked she would apologize and tell me she was just thinking out loud. Having to try to figure out each time whether I was supposed to be listening was really distracting.

usually I don't do it in the company of others. Sometimes when I walk down the street and the street is empty I would whisper to myself. But mostly I talk out loud in my apartment, and the walls are not sound proof. So, I guess if my neighbors can hear me, probably they think I'm insane or something. By the way, the scenarios I create aren't imaginary 100%, but rather I imagine how to confront some people based on past experience. So, they are mostly social scenarios.

I daydream alot because i am usually listening to music and it makes me reminise. I also daydream when i'm bored which is almost all day. i need a hobbie,i've been doing alot of differrent hobbies lately and then i get sick of them. the last thing i tried was adult coloring books which support daydreaming. it is creative and lets your mind wander as that is the outcome of it or supposed to be. i usually can't keep up with hobbies for too long but i do get a temporary pleasure from them. I'm just a daydreamer just like the song said.

What conversations? Something you had, or you create them or you wish they went the way you are talking to yourself now?

I think thoughts are flexible and imaginary, but speaking what you think makes it more concrete.
i sit and contimplate constantly. But saying something out loud makes it real and a secured idea.
So talking out loud to yourself is like a reassurance of your ideas.

Absolutely. Talking out loud helps me process my thoughts. Many people need to do this. Nothing weird about it at all.
