There were three days in a row when I was terribly constipated a few days ago. Since then I have been bleeding when I poop. Today there was a lot of blood on the toilet paper and in the toilet bowl there was blood. I am guessing I popped a vessel when I was constipated.

Is there anything I can do to treat it?

You probably should get it checked out by a doctor. If it has not stopped in 3 days there might be something going on. Get to ER if blood seeps out when not using the bathroom.

I disagree. I'm removing this thread because the doctor says I'm fine...and because 99.9% of members refuse to listen to their doctor I'm not about to argue with something that the doctor said was "very common and not dangerous".
Thanks for this!

Go ahead and remove the thread, then. Rectal bleeding is a possible symptom of a number of maladies, most of which can be quickly screened for or dismissed upon examination, but your doctor's note knows best.

I was constipated, that was the cause of the bleeding.

I apologize, but every one of my genetic elders has died from some form of GI-tract cancer, and I do listen to my doctors. Plural. A more conservative practitioner might want to run some tests just to be sure. I mean no disrespect, and I don't mean to scare you.

People get fissures when they're constipated. It is normal. she doesn't need a 2nd opinion.

I can understand people's fears of it being something more sinister... my own cousin died of bowel cancer at a very young age. But I have had bleeding due to constipation also and it was nothing. If the doctor says it's due to the constipation I would be inclined to go with that. Obviously if it happens again you should definitely get it checked out more thoroughly

I humbly rescind my call for a second opinion. I am what happened to me.

I don't think anyone meant to ignore your doctor. We don't want to worry you. You asked for opinions.

Some of us are medical conservative and some are less so.
