I'm at the point where the benefits don't out weigh the side affects. So how long will it take to wean off 40 mg Paxil, 20 mg Prozac, 2 mg Xanax and 60 mg of Mixed amphetamine salt combo. Can I do it all 4 at the same time.

I've done this and am currently med-free. That being said, I don't recommend it. If you can, see a psychiatrist or normal doctor who can help you wean off your various medications. Good luck!

Not recommended. Any doc you ask would say one at a time. Possible to do a quicker taper if you go IP but I don't know what you would prefer.

I know that feeling... I take around the same amount every day... some medical, some psych. Wishing I could get off them all is one thing... but logically, I know that I can't. I need to be on them, to be healthy and be able to function.

Paxil is very difficult to get off of. I suggest you speak with your pdoc.

I am going off meds with the assistance of my pdoc. I am going down slowly because an abrupt stop can make things worse-your body gets used to having to make less seratonin, for example, when you take a SSRI. SSRIs keep the seratonin that you make in circulation longer. So if you stop suddenly, you will likely be short on seratonin and that can make you feel awful.
Good luck! |

This should only be done under a psychiatrist's direction.

You might want to check out surviving antidepressants website. There is info there on how to taper slowly. You might also want to post something in the psychiatric meds forum. Perhaps someone there has experience that would help you

Yes. Ask your doctors about tapering down. Don't try going all for broke with the cold turkey method. Especially with SSRIs. Going cold turkey off of something like Effexor is downright hellish. Constant nausea, headaches, brain zaps that feel like they are splitting your head right down the middle, and cold sweats that soak your clothes and bedsheets thoroughly like you've just come fresh out of the shower, sans the clean relaxed and fresh feelings. That's just the physical side of things, then there's the sudden and seemingly inexplicable sense of absolute moroseness, absolute desolate depression that envelopes you. You spend most of your day curled up in a ball wanting the world to go away, or you to just disappear, complete with crying to the point where your eyeballs are so red and puffy and your nose is so snotty that you feel like the last person anyone would want to get near, let alone want to help.
No....I wouldn't wish that kind of torture on anyone. Not a single soul. Not a one. Not even those who would wish it on me. From what I've heard about going cold turkey on smoking cigarettes, and what I know of going cold turkey on Effexor? I'd chose quitting cigs cold turkey. It sounds like an absolute walk in the park by comparison.

I know how you feel. I've made the mistake in the past trying to go off meds too quickly though and it was bad. I always made things worse that way. Definitely talk to your doctor and do your own research from credible resources. I wouldn't think you'd be able to come off 4 meds at once- they might be able to taper two at one time but even that seems unlikely. Good luck with everything. Hope things get better.

Be very VERY careful about this and only do it with supervision of a doctor. My sister went off her meds suddenly and against medical advice. She had a psychotic break was hospitalized against her will and has never been the same since
