So, I literally took the first dose this morning of Prozac after being on Paxil for a few years, at varying strengths. Now, on the Prozac, I'm on 20mgs. Is that a lot?
Also, is it normal for it to make my brain feel funny--like, moments where it's like someone flicked a switch and I'm disoriented for a few seconds, then slowly come back to what passes for normal for me--and, well, tight is the only way I can think of to describe it. Like my skull is too small for my brain and my brain is both too large and somehow too tightly compacted and small. I haven't noticed a change in mood or emotion, yet, I don't think, bu that brain thing . . . I've only ever felt that twice before: Once when I first started Abilify seven years ago (whenever I had thoughts of suicide or self-harm, or heard voices, I'd get that switch-flick disorientation) and when I recently weaned myself off Paxil, as advised by my NP. Now, I'm getting it again. Not in response to bad thoughts, just randomly, as far as I can tell. So I guess what I want to know is, is any of that common among people with mood or personality disorders? Is it too soon to be feeling side effects of any kind, and might this just be the last gasps of the Paxil? Or--and maybe this is it, now that I just thought of it like a total unobservant clod--is it because I'm back on Abilify again, and have been for the past seven days? At 5mgs for the first three days, then 10mgs for the past four. I didn't think of that till I typed it out. Sorry if I'm in the wrong place, but I'm kinda freaked out if it's the Paxil doing this. And so quickly. When I started Abilify, it DID take about a week to give me those brain flicks. Anyone who's had experience with Paxil, your advice would be very appreciated, and any anecdotes you may have. Thank you.

I'm on 20mgs of Prozac too, and that's the usual starting dose, which you can stay on for years (2 in my case). It takes about 4-6 weeks to start being effective, and it can be hard going up that hill. But if you've been on Paxil before, maybe it won't be so long. As for your side effects, I didn't get anything like that at all. But maybe others will drop by and post their experiences. Hope you feel better soon.

I don't know about Prozac personally, but I do know that I had fuzzy brain off and on while taking Abilify. Also, depending on how long you took to get off Paxil, it might be your body getting used to be off the Paxil.
You might want to ask your question on the Psych Meds forum. There may be people there with helpful experience. |
