My boss gave me a packet for benefits and said she needs it back by the 26th. I'm not sure if I should sign up for it because I am under my parents insurance until I am 26. I am 24 tomorrow so I have two years left before I need it.
If I signed up for benefits, it would mean $65 out of my paycheck every month, and I am trying to save up for a car and that's a heck of a lot of money to take out if I don't need it yet. Should I sign up for benefits? |

Would the benefits you might actually use or receive keep you from having to already be spending anything close to $65.00 in the absence of the benefit package? If spending $65.00 would even come close to reducing your current expenditures by that amount or possibly even more, it might be a good idea. But if it might be like paying for a book of cost-cutting coupons you might never really need to use, then maybe not.

Stay under your current plan until you are 26.

I think you should be on your own benefits package

DO you have a lot of medical expenses? How much is your parents' plan? Is the plan you will be getting better than your parents' plan? These are all things to consider when choosing your insurance.
Good luck, seesaw

We have good health insurance and all of our "kids" have stayed on our policy until they turned 26. If your parents have good insurance, I would say to save your money and stay on their plan. One thing to consider is that your parents may have access to information about which doctor you see. With my insurance, you can tell that the bill was submitted by my GP, my T, or my pdoc. So if you don't want your parents to possibly have access to that information, it would be better to go on your own.
