Question about drinking

Hi guys I have been wondering about something and I would appreciate
some feedback please. I often mention in my posts that I like rum and
bourbon. I only sip a small amount in the evening and not even every evening.
I have never had a problem with alcohol addiction and I never drink to the
point of being drunk. So my question is this.
Am I being insensitive to others on PC by talking about alcohol ?
It is not the only thing I talk about but like I said I do mention it fairly often.
Should I stop or do you guys think its ok ? I realized that it may be an issue
for some folks so what do you think?

Fishin Fool, I'll confess I've never seen you post about drinking. You must not post about it in the forums I read or you don't post about it very much.

That said, I don't see a need for you to not mention it in posts. It's not like you are posting in a discussion of addictions and saying something "like nonny nonny nunu! I can drink and you can't!" IMHO, if you are staying within community guidelines there's no reason to stop.

I can't see that you have mentioned drinking either, and I am in the General Social Chat and Coffeehouse often where you usually hang out. To me if you were in the Addictions section and raving about alcohol, yeah then that would be insensitive.

But if you are within Community Guidelines, like lizardlady said then it shouldn't be a problem. I usually say I am drinking too, but just a "virtual drink" I enjoy a good honey jack daniels, and a Hennessey Colada from time to time, and I think I have mentioned it, but I didn't think there was an issue.

Yeah FF. I read your posts, I don't recall much talk about booze.
Don't worry. Alcohol is legal.
Most people probably drink a little.
I know it usually says not to drink with most meds.
I don't drink much. When I fly I use miles from mileage club to go first class. So Baileys Irish Cream is included. I'd be rude to turn it down. Ha ha.

I would think it's okay as long as you don't post about it in the addiction forum or encourage addicts to drink.

I enjoy a good bourbon from time to time. I know I shouldn't drink with my past history of drinking problems, meds, diabetes and bipolar, but I still have the occasional one.

As long as you keep it low key, I don't mind.

Fishingfool - I read the posts you speak of. For the most part they appear in a light hearted thread. Your responses to the question 'what are your eating/drinking' are obviously made in honesty and I certainly don't read into them an intent to impress or wow us. It is just you being you - or so I think. I have never thought, 'this person drinks too much'. You haven't queried or suggested this elsewhere. I admit I myself have occasionally thought, 'gee that would hit the spot right now' but have never felt they infer I do more.

There are those I imagine who get a twinge of guilt or envy when reading this. But, there is a whole lot more in these threads that trigger difficult feelings and responses.

Go on, please do.

(Incidentally, I am a retired sailor and in my day the two seemed to go hand in hand. In fact, during my time in the ranks, there was still on the books the ration of one tot a day)

Judi, alcoholic here. One of the things I learned in AA is that alcohol is everywhere, and just because I have a problem doesn't mean I can/should tell anyone else that they can't enjoy a drink or talk about drinking. I've been sober a little over a year and when people talk about having a bourbon in the evening I feel jealous. But I don't want to drink over it.

I have often wondered the same thing, and there have been many times I post about drinking and then feel guilty. I guess if this was an AA type sobriety website it would be different, but I try to tell myself that as it isn't and I'm not encouraging drinking then there isn't so much wrong with it.

I think I have only ever noticed the odd post where you mention alcohol, but that is mainly because you mention rum which is also my drink of choice

I wouldn't worry about it. You and rum are inseparable, it's like a glass of martini and 007, one can't be cool without the other.

Come up to my standard, guideline! That's the attitude you'd wanna go for. I'd love to hear more about how drinking is just part of your life, seriously this sensitivity policing, over-sanitizing choices of words that we've been seeing lately need to be the subject of everyone's internal discussion, or else, Mr.Seinfeld will lose his stand-up gigs, and I'll be sad for it. 'Inappropriateness', I see a touch of dictatorship in it, the relative values are mere carriages that took us to where we are thus far, off the wagons we walk, with our own two feet on the ground.

I think it's okay, after all people can have addictions to almost anything, food for example (or eating disorders) but most people would say it's okay to mention that as long as it's not an inappropriate thread of course.

I think it's been ok when and how you've mentioned it.

As an occasional whiskey drinker I'm offended you drink rum!

Why would you mention this a lot? Is it relevant to where you mention it?

I just bought some spiced rum try....bus also bought some schnaps. Nothing warms after a day out in the snow like hot coffee chocolate with pepermint schnaps (brings back my skiing days in Jackson Hole). I maybe use a whole Teaspoon full in my drinks...strictly for flavor.

Nothing wrong with commenting as long as you are NOT encouraging people to drink in the addictions forum. They can avoid reading about it in the other forums if they find it a problem

I like whiskey mostly bourbon, I drink rum a lot because a good rum
is a lot cheaper than a good whiskey.

So true which is why I drink so seldom.
