Hi All
I am Lucy and just joined in your forum.
Over the past two weeks for several times a day I had pounding heart beats leaving me anxious and distraught. I even ended up last week at A&E in my local hospital, and have been diagnosed with irregular heartbeat. The cardialogist told me that it is not serious and with time these symptoms should go away. It is all very well but my life has been drastically turned as I cannot do things like before. Yeasterday afternoon after some not too strenuous activities my heart started to play up again. It was so scary that I contacted my medical centre who prescribed me Beta Blockers but feel reluctant to take them as the leaflet describes its side effects. As a result I need another medical opinion prior to taking Beta Blockers. I would be interested to know if there is anyone with similar experiences. Any ideas or advice would be welcome. Many regards Lucy

Hello Lucy: I'm sorry I cannot address your concerns. I'm an old goat & I have arrhythmia. It sort-of feels like I have a chipmunk scampering around in my chest! However I have not sought any treatment for it.

I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

P.S. Since you have some physical / medical concerns, I wondered if you are familiar with PsychCentral's sister website: "NeuroTalk". There are a lot of members over there who are quite knowledgeable with regard to a variety of different physical / medical concerns. You might check out the forums over there as well:

I experience heart palps due to some health issues that I have. Although most of the time I know that they are harmless I still get anxious when I get them. To top it off when I get anxious they tend to get worse. I'm under the care of a cardiologist for this and other reasons which has helped. When it happens try to relax and assure yourself that you are going to be fine. *hugs*
