I really like nostalgia, and I like thinking of places that are not around anymore. I like to think of grocery stores and stores in the mall that have gone bankrupt or closed. Sometimes I can get deep into my thoughts when thinking of simpler times when I was in school and before I was sick. I think of the year 2005 a lot. That was about a year before I developed PMDD. I also think of being 104 pounds a lot and of this girl who wore a Nike sweatshirt all the time. Sometimes I try to reenact those times. I'll go to stores that are there now, or I'll try to find a similar Nike sweatshirt. Ive lost 67 pounds so far and I need to lose another 29 to be a normal weight. I asked my mom why I like nostalgia so much, and she said it's because I like remembering my childhood when I didn't have so many responsibilities. I guess that is true. But, I'm happy with my life. I have high functioning mental illness, and I work a good job and I'm just in general very pleased with how things have turned out. There is just something that makes me want to return to those places and times. Does anyone know why?

Hey, Bozdickens. It could be that you're finding "older" life more complicated. Understandably so. I remember clothes I really liked from the past, however, and wish I could find some more like them. I am now 62 and find myself longing for earlier days! (Maybe when I was younger. )

I suggest you not worry about it. I think it's good when we can remember
the past. I certainly wish I could return to the past when I didn't have a mental illness and was less heavy.

The good thing is you are liking your life now. We must take each day as it comes and make the best of it!

Wow, Bozdickens, I do exactly the same thing! I love nostalgia. Sometimes I watch TV shows from the 80's-90's so I can pretend it's that era again, when I had my husband and children at home with me and things seemed so much less complicated.

I suppose that's what it's about...returning to a happier, simpler time.

I used to occasionally return to my childhood home and ask to visit "the big tree" where my brothers and I used to play, and I think the matter of not having adult responsibilities in those days is only part of the deal. Some folks might "keep up" or whatever as the world spins on, and I do no longer have any desire to return to that tree. Yet nevertheless, I still think many of the things modern society might call "progress" are far from best for all.

Intense nostalgia can also be associated with common depression.

I can relate a lot! I don't think there's anything wrong with it.. when you're really stressed you start to get nostalgic when you felt happier..
