I was recently diagnosed with hypo-thyroidism on top everything else. Symptoms started two years ago but I ignored them until it became apparent something was really wrong. Apparently it's not common for men to have this although in men over 50 it's more likely to develop.

Just wondering if there are any guys here dealing with this. If anyone at all knows of a good website with dietary info/coping strategies etc., please let me know. I'm taking the meds as prescribed and bloodwork says my thyroid levels are back to normal BUT I'm left needing much more sleep and tire easily.

I've not been myself physically ever since this started. This is as much of a problem to me as the rest of it. I used to sleep an avg of 5 hrs per night and feel rested all day with no desire for a nap. Been like that for years. Now I'm getting near double the sleep and walk around all day feeling exhausted. Granted, some days are better than others but the majority of them see me abnormally lethargic.

Aw hell...I'm just pist-off with it. I'm hobbled enough by the troubles that emanate from my gray matter. If anyone is out there guy or gal who can relate and has a successful coping system...I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I have the exhaustion/sleep trouble too. I am able to set my alarm so I wake up at a reasonable time but it seems I am compensating by going to bed unreasonably early.

I tried melatonin last night...I don't think it worked but I'll keep trying. I didn't sleep any earlier than I usually do. The main problem I suppose isn't getting to sleep so much as the drain on my system that's somehow elated to the thyroid situation. I slept ten hours last night. I should be bouncing off the walls with energy. I'm glad you can get to sleep when you choose though...at least that's a good thing. I certainly do understand the exhaustion problem however.
