About 6-7 years ago I was unemployed for about a year. I honestly yearn for those days sometimes, but I feel guilty for it. I mean what do you think it says about me? Am I a lazy parasite? An ambitionless slug? Or has stress just clouded my judgment and maybe my memory of that time?

Being unemployed for a year is nothing. I've been unemployed for roughly 5 years because of my mental health issues and I'm just now in a position to do something about it.

Don't feel guilty over pointless stuff.

I was unemployed for three years. Turned to alcohol. If you were ill then you need the time. Health before wealth goes the famous phrase. But i do feel inadequate for not been able to hold down a job i was fired countless times and a job i did for years the ppl didnt understand me thought it was weird for person of my young age to not be out partying at every opportunity.

A year is not long and you werent lazy, but sometimes we need to take a step back and get away from it all. I had a friend who was off with depression for a year and just did counselling. My family did think it was hot gossip but shes got career now.

Viewing stress as the overall issue here, I would certainly not consider a longing for less-stressful days as evidence of being lazy, lacking ambition of having clouded judgment. I often long for days like I used to know in various areas of life, but I try to not stress myself by trying to revive them. If we are facing in the right direction, the sun sets behind us and we continue doing our best as we walk toward the next new day...

Yeah, it sounds like you have a job that stresses you, so you long for the days when you were less stressed, when you had your time to yourself. There's nothing wrong or unusual about that, and it's certainly not a sign of laziness. Also, you could be remembering that year as better than it really was, sure.

It's okay to long for less stressful times. However, you also need to take care of the present.

If you need time to be ok than so be it.
You are not lazy and don't let anyone make feel that way.

There's nothing wrong with that, better to be unemployed than working a job that you hate/causes you stress, etc. If it felt right at the time, dont regret it.
