I'm torn. I have been hospitalized for a mixed episode which gave me my bipolar 1 diagnosis, and on a separate occasion for a manic epsiode, but my most recent 3 hospitalizations have been for psychosis. I left with my dx changed to schizophrenia.
I do not believe that I have a thought disorder because I know it could be my imagination or ocd/anxiety, and I fear that the doctors I've seen most recently have overlooked my mood symptoms, which have happened to me fairly cyclically since I was a small kid. I will not go into specifics because my sympotms sound both like bipolar and schizophrenia, but I do not think I have had psychotic symptoms when my mood was normal. I have been given an antipsychotic and an antidepressant and I think the latter might be making me hypomanic, but I have not experienced a decreased need for sleep, which I was told is a core symptom of mania and hypomania. Does it matter what they call it? It is the antidepressant that worries me, that and that I was diagnosed with schizophrenia so quickly, my symptoms did not last 6 months. |
