Just out of curiosity, do people who love drama and thrive on it in order to keep themselves going have a personality disorder like Histronic Personality Disorder or something else? I know some people that love drama, every conversation they have involves gossip and just anything dramatic related. Also some people exaggerate things so far that it actually causes more problems than necessary. Would people like this qualify for a personality disorder diagnosis? Is there a difference between someone who has a disorder and someone who is just dramatic? Other than ignoring them, what are the best ways to deal with these people? Just wondered what your thoughts were on this.

I suspect that there is a range, and "personality disorder" is on the extreme of having symptoms that are very difficult to change, and that persist over a long time.

I agree. I have someone in my life who I can't quite figure out is histrionic or just likes drama or is attention seeking. Whatever it is, it's annoying.

I think maybe sometimes people that are constantly gossiping, stirring up drama and focusing on other people do so in order to avoid taking a look at(or facing) themselves, their own issues and problems.

I have a sibling that's like that. She seems happiest when she is gathering info about other people, goes around town purposely seeking out others just to get dirt from them. Then she repeats it to whoever will listen, changing the stories, adding things, leaving things out.Sometimes she will take one simple fact, one word or one sentence she hears and create her own story to go along with it and tell it as a true story. She has caused so many problems for so many people, myself included.I have had so many arguments with her over this because it's so hurtful and damaging.

I realize though, she does this as a way to avoid her issues, the past, the present, etc. It's more like a coping mechanism for her and I don't even think she realizes it.As long as she's so focused(obsessed) on everyone else she doesn't have to face her own truth and her own reality. And I think talking so bad about other people, making them look so horrible, makes her,and her own life not seem so bad.

I have cut her out of my life.Sometimes I regret it and miss her but being around her isn't worth all the chaos and drama that goes along with having her in my life.
Thanks for this!

I agree. It is very annoying. I know most people just like the attention they receive from the drama but there are a couple people I know who I would not be surprised if they actually had the personality disorder.

This is my ex- wife you described. She didn't show me this until after we were married. My therapist said it was a passive aggressive behavior. They develop this from everything you all have said and not being allowed to express there feelings to there parents while growing up. It has affected my life a lot.
