I'm an 18 year old girl, Italian, and I'm sick and tired of hiding myself. I've always been extremely smart since I was a kid, with a striking aptitude for math and science. I always got straight A's with almost no studying, especially in math, physics, chemistry and biology. the point is, in my school there's no special program for gifted education. for the last 4 years I had to fake my real skills just to skip form one grade to another, and no one of my teachers understands my real abilities and needs. i would like to challenge myself with really hard math and physics books and teachings, but I simply have no access to them. classes are boring and repetitive. this is really bringing me down. all the people who know me tell me that I can have an extremely brilliant career in a stem field, and suggest me to enroll in engineering at university. the point is, nobody seems to recognize my talent. I'm also on antidepressants for a year since I broke with my lesbian girlfriend (we had been together for 5 years, since we were 13). what should I do?

Is there away you can apply for the tough math courses online? It's sad when no body recognizes our talents. Don't give up because no one notices you. Im sure you can find something online or another member here might be more of a help for you.

The above suggestion is good but i will take that a bit further.
But first of all, see your school guidance counsellor. It would be good for them to know but they can also be of help finding you options to challenge your intellect. One such example would be to set up the IB (International baccalaureate) program which you may be able to either 1) challenge for credit, or 2) sign up for. If they are no help, look this up yourself and see if you can find courses online. Check to see if any universities in your region offer distance education. You may be able to earn university credit. If cost is an issue, most universities allow people to 'audit' classes free of charge. Another option is to contact MENSA, an association for the ultra gifted. They may be able to help you with some resources too. Finally, tutoring isn't just for the those with learning difficulties. Many tutoring agencies offer material and guidance for those who are not being challenged in a regular school setting. |

They don't offer calculus and physics at your school? Take them in college, that's what I did. I have an engineering degree.

I just googled Italy. your country has some amazing libraries, tourist attractions, book stores and more where anyone can go and learn about all kinds of things including math and sciences, even things like colosseums, and leaning tower of piza and more where tour guides take time to explain all the science, architecture, different types of mathematics that were involved....
my point just by going to your nearest library you can learn about all the things you want to, just by taking a free tour of your locations attractions can also be a wealth of information and learning opportunities. there is also the internet. just google what you want to learn and there will be millions upon millions of downloadable books, texts, video clips and full length documentaries that can help you learn what you want to learn about. make up your own study list and study activities and enjoy. ![]() |

Exactly. There are multiple ways to expand your interests and knowledge that don't involve your school classroom.
