I REALLY need some support/advice.
I have postpartum depression, ocd, and bipolar. I had postpartum depression with my daughter and now again with my son. The most troubling part is the intrusive thoughts that I have. It makes it so hard to get through the day. I’m constantly battling my own mind, and it’s depressing and tiring. I’m currently on medications, but not the same as I was for my daughter that worked for me before. So I’m wondering if I should try my old medications. I’m at a loss. I’m always worse when I’m not at home. Things trigger my intrusive thoughts. Does anyone think going back on my old medications will help me more than what I’m on now? Any advice will help me... |

My first question is, how long have you been on this prescription(s)? My second is, have you been taking them exactly as prescribed? Lastly, have you educated yourself on foods that may affect or even negate the medication (grapefruit come to mind)?
It can take 6-10 weeks before you notice an improvement. If you are past this stage then talk to the prescribing doctor. |

Hello and welcome to PC.
First you need to bear in mind that post partum depression can be different each time and it's very unpredictable as to time and other factors. Second, if you don't feel your med is helping you need to talk to your doc and try something else. You are the best judge as to whether it helps you or not. Don't be afraid to tell doc you want something else. Above all, DO call 911 or get help asap if you feel like hurting yourself or others. ![]() I've had PPD. PM me if I can help you at all.

If I were you, I would talk to my doc. Maybe you just haven’t been taking the meds long enough for them to work, or maybe you DO need to go back to your old meds. That would be my inclination, since you know they work.
