Due to my limited brain power, I cannot do some things properly or at least good enough... I have friends but I always leave wondering whether it's true friendship or just out of pity. I cannot do anything in case it's the latter...
So I was wondering, if you were born brilliant but due to some reasons were left wounded and damaged, is your life still worth living? I am a real life Dr.Gregory House with a brain disability (or several) instead of a leg disability. But like in the final episode, I am left with nothing, not even an identity. Nobody will love me due to stigma... and due to my mental illness it's getting harder and harder to live every day. Now it's no longer about saving lives. It's about living a comfortable and happy life.

Suicide is so final and irreversible. So "dont". We will all be there in no time anyway, relatively speaking I mean.
Surround yourself with joy and happiness, in whatever form it comes. |

Well... honestly... I don't know the answer to this. The older I get the less capable I seem to become at handling anything of a philosophical nature. Everything is pretty-much nuts-&-bolts to me, as the saying goes. I just think that, whatever a person's circumstances, they simply have to strive to accept themselves just the way they are... whatever that is.
There are an avalanche of "shoulds" that family, friends, & society deluge us with throughout life. We should be this & we should do that, blah, blah, blah. F it all! (Don't should on yourself.) From my perspective, I don't have to be any particular way or do anything in particular, or even do anything at all. I just am & that's it. No justifications required. At least that's the way I see it... for what it's worth. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." Hey TLC. Just on the question of friends - cherish them buddy, whether you think they're there for you out of pity or what-have-you. Because the way I look at it is, they're there because they want to be there, in your company. But secondly, if all your friends were to go away for one year, two years, ten years, forever! - you might very well wish them all to come back - out of pity for you or for any reason.
Just something to think about, friend. Hugs! |

I think people don't just tell others not to commit suicide simply because it's illegal. People tell others not to commit suicide because they are aware of what one would be giving up if one were to go through with that! Also as someone else mentioned, think of the friendships given up! There's a major difference between people not recommending a course of action simply because it's illegal and not recommending a course of action because they profoundly wish the one who is suffering will realize that life is most likely worth living. Think about it the other way, I mean, people don't prevent themselves from committing suicide simply because it's illegal. It's because they're profoundly unhappy (for a moment or more) that they follow through with it. So, on the flip side, it seems to me like life can offer a lot, so it makes sense to not give into thoughts or whatever of suicide. Like, really, I could get into the philosophical debate about suicide but honestly, none of that matters. I think what matters is that suicide ends consciousness, and that's the problem with it. I mean, ending consciousness is less desirable than staying conscious, in my opinion. Seriously, just food for thought. Diving into the unknown is very scary for me, personally. I know going through stuff like this is hard. I've been there myself...

It's not for me. I get nothing from it apart from pain hurt anger which starts everyday I wake. I feel it isn't now and I've given it a long time for things to get better

Albert Camus wrote in the opening to “The Myth of Sisyphus” and I’m paraphrasing here ‘The only real problem of philosophy is that of suicide. Whether life is worth living.’ So I would say asking this question puts you in some pretty good intellectual company. Spoiler alert, Camus comes to the conclusion that yes life is absolutely worth living.

You are a very valuable person TLC. You are NO less than anyone else. Friends come and go. Don't base your worth on having friends. You have many on here. It would be a terrible waste for you to leave this world.

Thank you Calla. Friends do come and go. But I have a hard time accepting that. But as always, the rule of life is "Adapt or suffer."

To be honest, life is not worth living. I mean, we, humans, destroyed what we call life, and we screwed up other species for our own interest. This is why I always say people, humans, are selfish, because we don't care about plants or animals, we care only about ourselves. The only reason why most people would care about plants or animals is because we survive by eating them. Politics suck nowadays and have always done, the future looks pretty pessimistic after we've had many centuries of war and death, poverty, abussive politicians and leaders and a bad society unable to learn about important things that really affect their lives. People who say "I don't care about politics" are suicidal people. What if someone established a fascist dictatorship in your country and you ended up being poor, living in the street with almost no food, with people thinking "look how nasty he looks" everytime they see you? Society sucks, and society is the reason why life isn't worth living.
If you have a mental or physical problem/illness, in most countries you must be sure you've got money to pay for your health. How can you make profit of other people's health and safety? And we do support this, seriously? And not helping freely those with mental issues could affect other people, they could become terrorists, serial killers or politicians who want to ruin everyone's life. If living constantly in depression, pain, suffering and/or alone is better than commiting suicide, then **** those optimistic people. Not everyone is strong enough to resist and improve, and not everyone who commits suicide is selfish. Life is pointless, it will always be, nothing you do matters, you could kill an entire country or not kill anyone, you'll end up dead and never come back to any kind of life, so why even bother caring about life? Call me pessimistic, but I don't live thinking of death, don't even care about it. If it comes, it comes. And everyone's "bright future" hope is fake and just a product of your minds. The future will never be good, we can't live in a good world. That's the problem of being conscious and far more evolved and developed than other species, having these characteristics can't always help us, but rather than that, it will lead us to problems: mental issues, feeling "negative emotions" (sadness, anger, frustration, deception...) and leading to bad rulers of our lives which should disappear and everyone rule themselves. Think of it, no one to tell you what to do, to make you feel weak and inferior, why wouldn't anyone want that? Friends are worthless, they'll die, some before you, others will leave you before dying. Family is worthless, you don't need them after lots of years living with them, after that years they're just a tool of repression, control and indoctrination. School is worthless, nothing you "learn" there will ever be useful for you in the future. Work is worthless, we don't need money to live, and without money, work becomes pointless. Rather than that, work for the community or for yourself, not for the money. Humans are worthless, because we're just intelectually superior to other species doesn't mean we have to exploit them and ruin their lives, and ours. The thing is that, even if life is worthless and pointless, death is pointless too. Who knows, if you're feeling really bad today, maybe tomorrow you'll feel only bad, or good, who knows. But you wouldn't know, and wouldn't be able to know if you give up today. That's the only motivation I have in life, living the way I like and want and finding things that make me happy and that entertain me. Even if it's hard and I still have problems and I'm almost every hour angry, I don't want to give up. |

Did we screw up to a certain extent? Definitely. But that's human -- or for that matter, also animal -- nature to screw up. Look, there are definitely people who will punish the mentally ill (or healthy!) people who become terrorists or the next Hitler(s.) I myself witnessed a thief getting badly beaten up -- just as he deserved -- by heroic police personnel in person. Look at people like Dr.Stephen Hawking. They face the worst of life. Yet they did. I know you already know this, please don't be mad at me. But all I am trying to do, is my duty to tell you life is not as pointless and worthless you think. People SUCK. Horribly. Some do. Others do not. Those who do, do. Those who do not, do not. I know some great people, some bad people and the rest are in between. I won't give you advise, I am certainly not capable enough for that. However, I do believe life is worth living. Not in all cases, of course. But nature has its own course of events. Sometimes we cannot do anything. |

Also, just because somebody is about to die, it doesn't mean they're worthless... even the Universe is going to die.

I do not believe life is worth. The very fact that I can breathe, eat, sleep, have sex etc. Those are small miracles to me. We all have faced near impossible pain, sadness, strife, wonder, trauma, love...I am very happy to be alive even when things suck(and they do- alot). One of the best ways I have found forgiveness and unfettered joy is to help others. I mean really helping them expecting nothing in return. For me, its working with other addicts and alcoholics. Its very hard to think about your own misery if you are helping someone out of theirs.
I will take 15 minutes of spectacular over a lifetime of nothing special. __________________ "I carried a watermelon?" President of the no F's given society. |
