I live in a town full of alcoholics. I’m on antipsychotic and anti anxiety medication as well as remicade now.
In my younger years in the military I would drink to black out usually because I was with so called friends who would want me to drink like they were doing.

I would make a total *** out of myself. Then those so called friends would give me the cold shoulder later on and outcast me.

Years have gone by since I’ve been out. Now everybody automatically assumes I’ve never had a drop in my life. These guys show up to work drunk and hung over driving company vehicles.

One of them had the nerve to go on a rant and call a few of the other guys a bunch of lazy pieces of s&it including myself for seeing something we did that he didn’t like. I got in his face and called him out in front of everyone even the boss.

Nothing was done about except a talking to.

Is there something anyone could help me to think to say to these guys when they try and say “you’ve never drank before you don’t get it.”

You don't owe them a response. They just want to argue with you. Ignore them. They will probably be frustrated and want to continue the conversation. Ignore them.
Thanks for this!

You can reason or logic with alcoholics. Don't waste your time or energy especially if they are drunk & they just justify their actions.

I have been known to make the comment though "you don't have a clue about my past & it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS" , but mostly ignore them

If you feel comfortable sharing your past experiences with alcohol and how it affected you, it might help them. I've done 12 step programs and usually another person with the same issues is the only person they will listen to. But keep in mind you can't control them and they will only stop drinking if they feel ready to.
Thanks for this!

Since they're your work colleagues, maybe just tell them you used to be a pretty hard core drinker in the military but now you don't like the s*it. Or something like that.
