I posted on my blog and on Twitter that I was going to the chat room on my website Pads Chicago today. Well, I got to meet a few people. One guy was from Nigeria and after some questioning I found that he was looking for financial aid help to further his education. Crazy me took the challenge. Eh, so he's across the ocean. He's got my curiousity picked and I've got to try the challenge, LOL!
I know for sure he is from where he says because I subscribe to Google Analytics for my website statistics--it tells me where everybody is and more. I've had hits from Nigeria and all over the world before. Its really interesting to see! I think its just so cool to have talked to him--in Nigeria--in my chat room online today and I'm going to try to help him locate some resources. It may be harder since its a totally different country than I am in, but it could be fun if I find some good information for him. And, its not like I have a ton of activities logged in my calendar either. |

Chris Hanson--a reporter for the news magazine "Dateline" on NBC's network--did an expose on scammers from Nigeria a while back. All the scammers always wanted money. . .I am hopeful you are being cautions so as not to be swindled yourself. . . |

A word of great caution, inkblot....
Meeting ppl online is great. I've befriended some great ppl online and have maintained a great thing with several all over the globe. However, anyone who asks you for money, especially within the initial meeting is someone who you should NOT respond to in haste. Spend time with the person. Get as much info from that person as possible. If this person is requesting money from you, then you are entitled to get ALL information about him that you can from him. Check out the credentials of his place of education. Full name. Learn of his family, friends, profession, hobbies...anything you can to validate his character. Do yourself a favor and do not jump into this so quickly. Take your time. Learn of the person. Gawd. I can't help but to see all these warning lights goin off...And I'm not a suspicious person. Take care and be careful. Shangrala ![]() |

Be VERY careful with people from nigeria and this sort of thing. This is a world wide known area of scams. They will both try to get money out of you and try to get your information so they can steal your identity.
Nothing wrong with locating resources but do not give him ANY of your real information. Trust me. Google "nigeria scam" and you will see what i mean. |

Oh, don't worry about me--I am well aware of scams from Nigeria--and I have NO money to give, LOL! I told him I could try to find resources. I myself am NOT a resource and I have no intention of giving out any of my information. I'll send him a few web links over email and that's it.

Yay! Good for you. That comes as a relief. This makes me flash on something my hubs had recently encountered in one of his online dating adventures, (we are divorcing, so it's no biggie to me...lol). He had met this spanish 'woman'...*tongue in cheek*.. who states 'she' presently resides in Africa and who just so happens to be moving reasonably close to our location of residence....how amazingly coincidental...lol... I threw him a casual forewarning about the dating scams before he even really got far into communications with this person. I informed him of all the scams n whatnot, and suggested to him that if this person even remotely hints for ANY money or info from him to immediately consider it a scam. Needless to say, not 30 minutes into this person showering hubs with all sorts of compliments....lol....that 'she' soon asks for money to buy a webcam....Omg..lmao. I must admit, that I did find a tad of satisfaction in the fact that he not only was looking for love at the wrong time (as tasteless as he 's always been anyway), but that it was something I was right about.....lol...he couldn't deny that. (I really do wish him the best tho.....lols). At any rate..I'm glad to learn that you have your net sense and that all is good. Shangrala ![]() |

I wouldn't waste too much time on finding information for him either......no one else would be willing to give him money either. You can bet that any reasonable place here with money wouldn't be sending it off to a scam either.
I thought I couldn't be taken by a jerk either.....then the one thing I had money to pay for (my heat pump) I got involved with a crook.....geeze, you would think I would be smart enough by now to not get caught by the jerks out there promising to take care of the job & "oh no, they wouldn't take advantage of a woman"....nah.....I have heard that line way too many times here in KY.....am sure it's all over the world. I am still working on getting a working AC for this summer...luckily it hasn't been bad so far......GGGGRRRRRRr!!!!!! Don't trust anyone until they prove they deserve your trust. Take care Debbie
