(GP=general practitioner)

Because I chose to go with a midwife instead of her recommended OB/GYN for my prenatal care and delivery!!???

WTF?

How messed up is that??

Now I have to wait godknows how long to find a new one.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure it won't be too hard but it's so frustrating!

That's too bad.
There are places you can rate your doctor publically. You may want to consider that. It will at least give other people a head's up when considering that MD for their own choice of doc. And a doctor who doesn't take your preference into account when delivering your baby is something to really consider. And this one *sounds* like a control freak.

I follow my docs directions to the letter when it comes to my health. But, my doc also listens to me. We are partners in my health. And, unless I was a high risk pregnancy, I cannot even imagine him rejecting a midwife, if that was my preferance.

Do you have mitigating circomstances that would suggest not using a midwife? If not, do change doctors right away. And do consider using a public report. Doctors are people with specialized knowledge. I am very very grateful for mine. But, he's not a god. None of them are. And they do not have the right, or the responsiblity to control your life.

Peace!

If this is your first baby you really need the best care you can get. It really would be best to have a consultant OB/GYN for you prenatal care and delivery and you would also be assigned a midwife too. This is so that all complications can be dealt with as they arise and so that you and your baby have the best health possible. Did your GP not explain this to you? I'm from the UK so maybe things are different over there but it could be that your GP had you and your baby's best interests at heart... I do hope you will get the best care possible.
