I have never been much of an Xmas fan at all, but this year my hubby is getting us a PS3! I never wanted one before, but there are just a few games I want now that I have been looking around.
I really want Katamari! It's awesome!
My 9 year old is getting a new laptop, I am giving my husband a PSPGO and a DVD he's wanted for a long time.

Are you getting/giving anything cool this year that is just putting you over-the-top excited?

Since I have no one to get something for me, I bought for myself. I bought me a new toy and am learning how to use it by chasing the cat the around the house. It is a radio controlled truck, a big one.
I am kind of stuck on presents. My son gets his usual Subway giftcard and my mother will get her scratch off lottery tickets. I have no one to buy for so my shopping is done.

Hint to "hubby" to toss in a PSN gift card, so you can download some cool 10 dollar casual games like Katamari. The cards are sold at most major retailers...

I must admit I love Christmas We have the least money we've ever had and we are in a new house, never spent Christmas here before (we were in our repossessed house for 20 years), but we will be together, all four of us and my daughters b/f who is Jewish. doesn't usually celebrate christmas (he's really looking forward to it) AND I AM SOOOO EXCITED When my daughgter is home from Uni on Thursday we will put on carols, drink a little mulled wind and decorate the trees. It has been a challenge this year but we are organised, happy and being together as a family means more than expensive gifts etc .... wishing everyone peace, love and if you're struggling I hope for the holidays things will be at least peaceful. You will be thought about, we always remember the struggling and sad and less fortunate in our house (((((((((((((((all))))))))))))))))Ophelia xxxxx

We are short of money again however second hand things are brilliant.

We bought a £110 remote tony hawks skate border for my 20 year old for £25 its brand new and still in its box.

We bought a second hand wood swing set which needs repainting thats it ! It was £600 we paid £100. for my daughter who is 8 and youngest son who is 5.

We bought a second hand quad bike original price £1300 we paid £300 only used two or three times needs the footwell repainted ! for the older two boys aged 12 and 10.

We are always short of money and I so love Christmas I saved up all year for it.

I cant wait for Christmas I know lots of people on here have very little (the same the world over) however if you shop around and save through the year you can still have a great time.

There is nothing wrong with second hand stuff I should know I get it most of the time as we are on benefits and with Six kids (two have left home as they are older) but four young ones here its hard to make money stretch so shop around !

Great dinner and having all the family around (they dare not be here as I am so hot on Christmas and they know it lol)

Who needs birthdays !
Thanks for this!

Christmas in San Francisco is fun. I'm going to Chinatown today, which is a great place to buy a whole bunch of cheap but unusual gifts. My roommate and I have a Chinese throwing star collection. We combined a few cork bulletin boards together on a wall that we practice on and have both gotten quite deadly, so watch out evildoers!

There's this great folding Krull-type throwing star I'm getting him from Chinatown and I'm already jealous of it.

There's only 4 people I exchange gifts with and it's understood that we're all broke, so we make up for it with several cheap weird/fun gifts, which I like best anyway.

Mike

Our IRL best friends and their kids and us and ours used to spend £5 on a novelty gift which was fun. But now it's gone down to £1 Well that is a challenge I can tell you hehe. It has become a yearly ritual now, we try and buy each other something as useful as possible LOL .... the tiny screwdriver set that my friend bought my hubby last year was used only last week to put the batteries in the gift we bought for their youngest this year ROFL ....... it's a great laugh opening them too .... good times

I only have 4 people to buy for, 2 friends, my brother and his wife. I have fun shopping for my friends. One is getting a calendar with pictures of fantasy art (she's an artist so she'll like it) and a collection of herbal teas. Haven't found a gift yet for my other friend. She's really into cooking, so I may get her a collection of interesting spice rubs.

Brother has way more money than me and buys everything he wants, so I usually get him an inexpensive but good detective novel, actually it's second hand, as I send him one I've already read, wife is same - way more money than me so I usually send her something like pretty scented candles.

My 2 friends usually get me great presents. They don't have a lot of money but are really crafty so lots of times, thy're hand made and unique, or related to one of my hobbies.

My brother is totally useless when it comes to Christmas. He either can't be bothered to shop and sends me a gift card, or sends me something totally dreadful like architectural digest.

My big present to me this year is my new harp. It's supposed to be ready sometime in Dec. I really hope it's here before Christmas, so I can take it to my friends and play for them.

I usually get somewhat excited about Christmas, but this year my dad is working on painting the house of one the guys he works with, so it should be a lot better than last year..we had just moved into our new house which required a major deposit, I was sad because I was homesick and because I didn't like my new school, etc.. But this year I might get a drawing table It might be a little bit after the holidays because my dad has to finish this painting job, but I don't care. One of my favorite parts of Christmas is spending a couple days with my cousin at our grandma's house. We've been doing it since we were little

It's always nice to be able to get yourself something, but it's nice to get from someone else, too. Maybe your son can get you something or your mom. Do they get you anything?
I can give you some of theseCan't WAIT for ChristmasCan't WAIT for Christmas

Sounds fun! Too bad you don't have room for the cars. I used to play with them when I was younger and had a blast.

Oh, he already bought Katamari! I can't wait to play it. Beautiful Katamari was WAY too hard...so I am hoping this one is easier.
I will have to let him know about the gift cards! Maybe I will get one for my birthday in June! Oh wait...our anniversary is in March!!!

I think it's wonderful that you all get to be together. It's not about the money or the gifts, but about being together, IMHO. Some of the best Xmas' I have had involved just a potluck type dinner, drinking apple cider and watching funny movies.
I hope you all have the best time!!
I think I am going to spend some time volunteering this year.

We get tons of second hand stuff for the kiddo! They have some of the best stuff. Some of the toys are even old enough that I had the same ones! LOL...he loves 'em, though.
That's a lot of kids to save up for!
Have a great Holiday!

I miss zThe City! Chinatown is GREAT for unusual gifts. I used to by myself the coolest stuff. I now know not to push your buttons...I don't want a star in the head!

I hope you get some really cool gifts from those 4 people!

At least you have an idea about what folks will like. I know all about someone who buys themselves EVERYTHING and then I can't ever figure out what the heck they would want....my husband! We made a pact that neither one of us can buy ourselves gifts from mid-November til after xmas!
Handmade gifts are great because you know the person put a lot of time and energy into it.
Your brother seems to have no clue what you might like. Maybe you could leave him hints or something. You could say, "I have never had a ***, but would really like one." . Maybe he would pick up on that.
I hope your harp is ready soon!

Sounds like your dad is working alot! I hope you can spend SOME time together on Christmas. I hope you get your drawing table. Maybe you could draw something to share here with us, once you have time.
Have a great time with your cousin at your grandma's house!
