Friday was a good day......& go figure, it was Friday the 13th.
(I posted a shorter version or this under the irony thread here on the social forum....but wanted to post it more detailed in a thread of it's own) On Monday, my friend needed help hauling her horses out to their riding area....all the National Park people around the country along with a writer for all the horse magazines & the land conservation people were in Lexington for a gathering & wanted to check out Carol & her Husband's 1000 acres of riding trails, so she provided the horses along with several other people....well, to thank us for all the work we did helping her, she invited us all out to lunch at the wonderful local Beaumont Inn's dining room buffet on Friday......best food in town & wonderful atmosphere. After eating, she wanted to go riding to check out how they were doing with the gravel that had been brought to the area to help with the stream crossings. I took the photos for the grant that got them the money for that project, so I was interested....& it was just going to be a short ride anyway....just the 2 of us were the only ones that had time to ride. I had my 3 eskies with me, so ended up driving my own truck out to the riding area. On the turn off to the riding area, there is a house with several dogs. I noticed that one of the dogs had something like a jacket or a blanket that he had drug up to the driveway. I asked my friend if she had noticed it....& we sort of joked about the dog....but I said that I hadn't wanted to get out & pick it up. Well, we had a wonderful ride....just about an hour...........we got finished & loaded the horses into her trailer. I got into my truck & followed her out of the area.....I got back to where the dog had the jacket or whatever & decided to stop & pick it up & drove ahead a little, got out & layed the jacket on the car window area so the person couldn't miss it. I then drove off toward home....taking the shortest way home......as I was driving....just 2 minutes before I got there, there was a truck that was laying sideways in the road. I stopped my truck in the middle of the narrow road & got out to see if I could help. The youngest boy was walking toward me & had his cell phone.....duh, I had left my cell phone at home.....but I directed him to call 911. The young girl that had been driving was pretty much hurt...her back & head....who knows what internal injuries she had.....got her laying down & got a blanket from my truck for 2 of them. There was still another guy in the truck....the back window of the truck had broken out & everyone crawled out of the truck through that.....the last guy in the truck had a bad head injury. The man who's farm it happened in front of came out just at the time I stopped.....had everyone calling 911 & then the kids were calling their family.....the lady that lived at the farm where the accident happened was a nurse.....we were trying to keep the kids quiet & laying down until 911 came. I climbed into the truck to shut off the ignition.....another man came up & found a small fire was starting on the bottom part of the truck that was laying on it's side....he put out the fire (now I wish I had a fire extinguisher in my truck like I had in all my cars in California.....but the fire was safely put out. The Kentucky vehichle enforcement car showed up along with the sheriff & our local fire truck. Wouldn't you know it, but one of the firemen that ended up at this accident had been the one at both accidents in front of my home last year & he was also the one along with his uncle that had installed my pool (for the previous owner).....small town. The boy's head injury was bad enough that they ended up air lifting him to the university hospital.....they might have air lifted the girl also.......she said that she was driving toward the direction I was coming in. There was another truck coming at her & she swerved to give him more room on the narrow road & while she did, the wheels of her truck went off the road & she lost control....ran into the culvert, into the tree & flipped the truck back onto the road facing the other way. If I hadn't stopped to mess with the jacket that the dog had been playing with before starting off for home......I would have been at the spot where her flipped truck landed & my truck would have been taken out by it. For the first time in a long time, I finally was in the right place at the right time rather than being in the wrong place at the wrong time......thank heavens for those few minutes I was messing around with the jacket instead of ending up right in the middle of the accident. Debbie

Thank goodness it wasn't you that ended up in the accident as well ((((( Debbie )))))
I have had times myself when I realized, had I not taken longer to do something, I could have been in that accident. I've also known in some instances that had I not been early for something, I could have been in an accident that was just a moment behind me and I would hear about it on the news later that night. It really makes my heart skip a few beats when that happens. I do hope the kids will be alright. My prayers go out to them, and to you. Thank you for being that "special angel" who stops and helps in emergencies. ![]() |

This story proves that 'everything happens for a reason'. I've heard of people who are late and miss their flight, only to find out the plane crashed. So the next time we're feeling inpatient in the next traffic jam- take a deep breath and relax - there might be a deeper reason you're waiting there.
So nice of you Debbie ![]()
