I just put the turkey in the oven. I think it is too big for us. Just me and my son and I have a 14 pound bird in the oven. I think I did everything you folks suggested.
1. Took out all the stuff inside
2. rinsed inside and out
3. rubbed butter all over the outside
4. put a stick of butter inside the cavity with the liver
5. put in a oven bag in a roasting pan.
6. Preheat to 350
7. Chart says 14 pounder cooks for 2 1/2 hours.

Tell me what I did wrong before it is too late.

Make sure the meat is falling off the bone when you think it's done....that way you can make sure that your turkey will be tender & tasty.

Was a little surprised that it was only 2 1/2 hours at 350 for that size bird....maybe it's the oven bag that maked it bake faster. That was my only thought from your list.....I haven't baked a turkey in years....but know it always took longer than I thought it would to make sure it was completely cooked yet not too overdone.

Relaxing is the only thing to do now.....can't make it bake any faster....might as well enjoy the rest until after dinner when you are too stuffed to move....lol.

Enjoy your dinner with your son.....sounds like a perfect Thanksgiving celebration to me.

I agree a 14lb bird should take longer and I hope you seasoned it with salt and spices

The cooking info on the turkey bag said 3 1/2 to 4 hours but the oven bags say to go with 2 1/2 hours. I put a pop up timer in the breast and a meat thermometer in the thigh. When it pops up I will assume it is done.
I told my son that I stuffed it with popcorn so when it blows the tail off it is done. He believes me....

I hope you put it breast side down! also once you take it out of the oven leave the bag closed for a little bit to allow the steam to stay in to keep it moist.

Oven bags to help bake it faster......& with the pop up & meat thermometer....you should be all set.....

I really think the popcorn will be your best determination of it being done....lol.....the exploding turkey......wow....I can see it now...popcorn coming out of all inside your oven & filling your kitchen.....think your son will definitely be impressed at your ability as a chef.....lol.

ENJOY!!!!!

So it should have been done by now and hopefully eaten. How did it go?

I let it cook a little longer than the chart said. My thermometer said 190 but the pop ups did not come up. I took it out to sit for a few minutes and they popped while it was sitting out. We are eating it now as I type this. My son is heating up some canned gravy, I never was able to make my own. I am not a cook and will never pretend to be.
Anyway, it looks good, smells good and tastes good. I did not screw up too bad I guess.
Also, I am totally strange as some of you have seen. My son found a hole from the pop up timer. So I told him that was the bullet hole. We have to find the bullet to do the autopsy. We are having fun destroying this turkey. He is the coroner and I am the assistant.

Ha!! What a fun Dad you are...stuffed it with popcorn.

Canned/packaged gravy is often much healthier because it has less fat. You knew that, don't kid us...

What fun......great times you son will not forget with his dad.....you sure are a special dad.

Hope you don't really find the bullet. I remember eating some pheasant one time that my grandfathers friend had shot....yikes was that horrible biting down on the buckshot....made the whole meal very unenjoyable.

You could always tell him that the bullet went in one side & out the other....hopefully you already carved up the other side so there will be no evidence...lol.

What a wonderful Thanksgiving....a lot to be thankful there with such a great son.
