Tonight when I was at walmart, I picked a name of an 8 year old girl from one of those xmas angel trees where you buy a gift for the child you choose and I was just wondering for anyone who has a daughter/neice/grandaughter etc around that age on any ideas of what they are into? The only thing I can think of is maybe hannah montana stuff? Or would they be too old for that? I was also thinking of maybe one of those jewelry/braclet making kits.. I just don't want to get them anything that is too young or too old for them.

So this is where I need your guys' help! What tv shows/movies/crafts etc are popular for girls of that age? Any ideas would be very much appreciated! I want to get someone really nice that this little girl will like Thanks!

In australia the toys that are popular with that age group are bratz dolls, hannah montana, polly pocket, my little pony. Hope that helps and that where your from has similar toys.
Thanks for this!

I think the jewelry making kit is a good idea, I don't have any young girl relatives but I know I was really into that kind of stuff at her age. While Hanna Montana is popular she might not like that kind of stuff.
Thanks for this!

I have a nine year old daughter, she is really into hannah montana things, however this year for her birthday somebody got her a candy jewelry making kit from walmart and she loved it to pieces of course it didnt last long so maybe a regular jewerly kit would be better. I think it's great that you are getting a little girl a present that is so sweet.

I think the jewelry kit is a good idea. My daughter will be 8 in Jan and she really wants a Moxie Girl doll - they're new and they have then at Walmart and Toys R Us. This is a wonderful thing for you to do Amanda

Thank you Kaika, gimmeice and Lynn! I appreciate all the ideas! I will make sure to write them all down and bring the list with me when I go shopping

Do you think any of the Twilight stuff would be too old for her? I saw the twilight dvd on sale at walmart for $8 and was thinking of getting that but I'm afraid she may already have it or maybe 8 is too young for it? I was also thinking maybe High School Musical related stuff? Do you think any makeup stuff (the kind that's geared for young kids, not adult make up) would be a risky thing to get?).. also anyone know of any good board games that age group would like?

I would get her real makeup. They should have a kit in the kids section. I would get her the High School Musical. Imo I think Twilight is a little to old for her. With the other movie she can sing to it. Well that's what my 8 year old boy does. I always here him sing songs to a movie. That is so sweet what you are doing for this little girl. I think that she will be happy with whatever you decide.

i dont think you should buy a dvd or anything like that, as these go to underprivaliged kids tht may not have a dvd player. also wouldnt get her make up as you dont know if the child who recieves it will be allowed to wear make up.

I have a 10 year old daughter (Chloé) who doesn't like hannah montana and is bored of high school musical as its been out for ages. I probably wouldnt buy make up for someone else's child although i dont mind my daughter wearing it many parents don't like their kids to. The jewellery making kit is a great idea or some other craft kit that would give her something to do but also end up with a really cool end product.
had a look on walmart and toysrus websites to see what they had as different things available over here and found a few things my kid would love. all were under $20
Sticky Mosaics - loads of designs to choose from
Shrinky Dinks - we have something similar called shrinkles and Chlo loves them!!
Elmer totally glamourous kids spa kit - my kid's been after one of these for ages
Pixos super creation studio - they're called bindeez in the UK, Chlo got these a couple of years ago and still plays with them
Colour Loco (Dotza and Sprayza) these would keep Chlo amused for hours
A Magic set - Bought one for my nephew 2 xmas ago and ended up having to get another to give Chlo!!
Lil Luvables Studio - What 8 year old girl would't enjoy stuffing her own teddy bears. Chlo would still love one of these.
Chlo also likes these pictures where you scrape the black layer off and you get a rainbow or metallic effect underneath - follow the guidelines and you get this gorgeous picture at the end. It's called scraperfoil here but not sure if you have it across the pond.
Think that most of these would suit an only child as she could do these on her own but also if she had a sister (or brother for some) they are things sisters could do together.
I would think the wee girl would be less likely to have any of these that the big names like barbie, polly pocket, bratz, littlest pet shop etc. most of which Chlo liked when she was 8 but at birthday parties often ended up with doubles when people went for those type of things.

Hope this is of some help, I know how hard it can be to buy for other people's kids (even if you do have one of the same age)

Take it from a daft uncle who has no idea what a girl wants, she will appreciate anything you get more than you know. That being said my niece loves Hannah Montana and all things Jonas Brothers.

And to you, have an awesome holiday!
