This is soooo weird, but I have this insatiable craving for oranges and orange juice.
Good thing to crave, right? Well.....this is just totally abnormal for me. I am not prego, but have been sick with bronchitis and a sinus infection.
I'm thinking it might be some sort of vitamin deficiency, but IDK.
Has anyone else ever had this happen?

I probably stuck this in the wrong spot...I always do. *shrug*

In Doctor Mindell's Vitamin Bible, he says that when you crave a certain food it is an indication of vitamin or some other nutrient deficiency. Thus, if you're craving oranges, you need vitamin C. I have acute sinusitis episode now and I am taking vitamin C in gelcaps everyday.
Yes, I have cravings like the one you are having.

Thank you so much. I have never heard of Doctor Mindell's Vitamin Bible, but that was what I was thinking. I don't typically crave oranges, but it started a few days before I got sick and is getting stronger.....so I will just keep eating oranges and drinking juice!

Sure. You're craving can very well indicate that your immune system is in needs...since Vitamin C is what supplies that.

I suffer from chronic pneumonia, and have noticed that when I am suffering I, too, crave more in that sense.

Can't hurt, anyway...to supply your craving......

Funny you mention that you're not prego, because when I saw the title of your thread it made me remember how I craved oranges when I was prego many moons ago.

I wonder if you are dehydrated from being sick and from medications.

Good that your craving is for something healthy! I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks guys! I will just continue my consumption of those yummy, juicy, oh so orangy oranges and juice! Having a glass right now before work! LOL

Some days after school I get home and the first thing I want to do is chug a gallon of orange juice... I have no idea why to be honest. Then today, when I got home I ended up eating like 3 clementines too.

This time of year, oranges come into the stores here and they are so yummy! My body tends to crave them around starting mid December until near the end of December as it is winter here and more colds and flu around.

I get those humungous oranges and I allow myself to eat one a day. Sometimes even two. They are so affordable and sweet and wonderful! After they start to be not so sweet anymore near the end of January I buy the little ones and they seem to be sweet till end of February or so.

Then I'm off them for another 8 months or so...so probably something to do with the season and climate here.

The first europeans came here and used to get scruvy in the winters so I guess it is pretty appropriate. I am wondering what the first nations people used to use instead of oranges...

I've found that peeling the oranges, splitting them in sections, then placing them on cubed ice is a wonderfully satisfying treat....(especially in the summertime), but they HAVE to be sweet oranges....
It's a bummer craving a sweet one only to bite into the "pucker-face" ones....lol.
(And if I can't wait to prepare them that way...I just lean over the sink n dive right into that juicy goodness.....).

I don't have anything to to add about the orange juice craving - but it can't hurt drinking it right? I would like to give a helpful tip for sinus infections. There a good sinus rinsing system by NeilMed - it comes in 2 different forms 1. is a Netty Pot and looks like a tea pot -you fill it with purified water or cooled boiled water and put in a package of saline crystals 2. this is a squirt type of bottle and you do the same thing except this type is a little more forceful and does a more thorough job. It takes a while to get used to and feels kind of freaky - similar to swimming and getting a whole lot of water up the nose. In fact when you quirt it up 1 nostril, it will come out the other side. This is an extrememly effective way to treat sinus infections and allergies. It can be used daily as a maintanance to prevent those repeated sinus problems. I hope you feel better soom.

Thanks everyone!

Shangrala, that is such a great idea. Yes, I know all about digging in right above the sink! LOL

Hunny, I found one that wasn't sweet and it was just not very fun to eat...I threw it away! YUCK!

lynn p., I have a similar thing to the netty pot. I tried that, but it stuffed me up more because it was causing more pressure and liquid into the sinus'. It works well every other time, though. I LOVE IT!
