I'm pretty excited, my dad went to a yardsale and got a great deal on a cannon rebel eos ti 35mm film camera,

Only problem, it didn't have the lens with it (hence the great deal ) I'm doing some researching and trying to understand lenses and such, but I"m a bit new to it all and was wondering if anyone could help me out, all I've ever owned is basic point and shoots and digital at that,

I've found what looks like a few good deals on amazon and ebay on lenses, but since I really don't know what I"m looking for, or what is a good deal or quality I was wondering if I could get some help.

What fun! I own the Canon EOS Rebel. What's great about Canon is the lenses are interchangeable ... that means when you do move up to the digital, keep your lenses! (That's probably what the person who sold to you did.) They have a Canon EF lens mount, which is excellent imo, as they allow you to quickly change lenses on the fly without ruining the film!

Now the basic lens is a 50 mm (at infinity) x .70 magnification.

The next lens to get is an EF 24mm f/2.8 EF 24mm f/2.8 Wide Angle Lens

I think there's a "basic" lens like 17 - 55 mm but it's pricey.

I'd be careful buying them on ebay unless dealing with a reputable ebay dealer. If a lens is cracked (even a common user might not know it) then it ruins your film etc.

If you are new to photography, now that you have a 35mm film camera, try shooting only in black and white. It will be cheaper that way, and it's an excellent way to learn to compose your pictures, and see what the camera is really seeing.

Good wishes!
