I was just outside putting bricks on some things because the wind right now is really gusty. I looked up and saw some thing streak across the sky, visible for literally just half a second, a perfectly straight streak that was increadibly bright, and I felt that it had made a sonic boom. I was far enough away that it didn't rattle anything, but I felt it. That thing must have been going at least 3000mph. I'm wondering what it was, because I'm pretty sure that a meteorite big enough to create a boom that big (this thing was really far away) wouldn't disintegrate in half a second...

Wow....AWESOME!!!

Congrats to you!! These fantastic shows of nature are really gifts if you can catch them in the act.

It sounds like it most likely was a meteorite. If you heard a sonic-boom like sound, that could have been the meteorite exploding, as opposed to disintegrating.

The other phenomenon I thought of when I read this was Ball Lightning. The verdict is out on ball lightning because it has never been able to be reproduced in a lab and there aren't many videos or pictures of it. It usually is an orb of light, typically the size of a golf ball, all the way up to a basketball size of orb and it can move slowly or quickly. Sometimes it will burn off quietly, but it can also explode. Sometimes it can hover close to the ground, even down to a couple feet.

Some skeptics say it doesn't exist...but most peoples descriptions of it are consistent. I'm a believer. I have actually seen it. I was on a camping trip in the Desert in California.

Curious to know if this light you saw had a streak behind it or not. If there was a streak it probably not ball lightning.

I'm voting for the meteorite. What a blessing to witness.

That's awesome! I once saw a shooting star and for a split second it made the streaks behind it absolutely colorful and beautiful x3

Amazing!--I do believe there is life on other planets; and in other Solar Systems.........I bet the beings on them think we, here on earth, are pretty
backwards compared to them!!!-------------------theo

I'm pretty sure it was a meteorite. I think it may have been one of the iron/nickel variety following a magnetic line, because it was going perfectly south-north.

Shooting stars (meteorites) can theoretically come from any direction. If it was for a split second it was probably a meteorite then. If it looks like a star.... but is moving slow.... its probably a space shuttle or a satellite. If its got a tail and doesnt move. its prolly a comet..... If it hits you..... its prolly a bug
