I think I asked this here a while back, but I'm going to ask again, to see if I get more responses.
Do you bathe or shower? Do you use a washcloth or mesh sponge to scrub your body, or do you just rub soap all over and rinse it off, or what? For my answer, I always shower and use a washcloth (although I like mesh sponges better).

Ah, I love my hot showers (even in the middle of the hot summer). Sometimes end up showering 3 or more times a day when the humidity is so bad, I can't stand feeling hot & sticky.
I probably stand under the hot water for about 5 minutes, relaxing before I Shampoo hair, then rinse that, then put on the conditioner while I wash.....either use those scrubbie gloves, or I still have my gingerbread man hand mitt with the course scrubbing mesh on one side & soft cloth on the other (depending on my mood). Put soap on that & scrub then I rinse off the conditioner & the soap & stand under the water for another 5 minutes.....then in the summer, I start cooling the water down before I get out of the shower otherwise I would end up sweating more when I got out of the shower than how wet I am in the shower. In the summer, I usually have a huge fan sitting in the bathroom to blow on me while trying to get dry. I would be lost without my shower.....when I feel an anxiety attack coming on.....hit the shower immediately & just stand there in the hot water relaxing.

I shower every day and use a mesh sponge. Couldn't do without my hot shower. I hate wash clothes. I find they stink between uses.

I love showers, but by virtue of my back and spinal problems, and high blood pressure, AND now my right leg randomly losing musle tone/strength..
I mostly end up bathing. I've fallen/fainted a few times in hot showers and was lucky I did not seriously injure myself. I definetly even with bathing have to watch water temp, though i am usually ok with hot baths - it seems to be hot showers that just suck the life out of me and make me dizzy. Doc says its a blood pressure issue, either its driving my pressure way up or way down and its a shock to my body. I couldnt bathe OR shower for TWO MONTHS when I broke my leg. Dear God I cant tell you how awful it was. ![]() I am thinking about investing in a shower chair. Sometimes in the past I have just sat down on the floor of the tub, and had a shower, but the water is not very intense that way. A shower chair would be awesome: ![]() |

I usually shower and use a mesh sponge, but on the weekends sometimes I take a long, hot bath to relax.

I remember having my leg in a cast for a month when I had knee reconstruction. They gave me a huge rubber thing to put my let in & taped it around the top so the water couldn't get in. My orthopedic surgeon wouldn't let me walk on that leg for 3 months (no pressure at all for fear the staple would pull out).....so I lived in a brace for the rest of the time which needed to be covered while showering. I couldn't have gone 3 months without a shower. It wasn't easy standing on one leg in the shower, but I managed.

I'm definitely a shower person - love them. And I use a wash cloth on my face but for the rest of me I jsut rub soap on and then rinse.
Showers are my lifesaver. When I'm really depressed I get into a really long hot shower and just stand there letting the water relax my muscles. But I have to admit, I do enjoy the occassional bubble bath. --splitimage |

I shower mostly, but take a bath when I am feeling the need to relax a little. I use a mesh sponge. I shampoo and condition my hair.

I'm a bath person myself, I'm not a very good stander. If I'm in the shower I end up sitting on the floor. I'd say I haven't used my shower anymore than 5-10 times since I moved here nearly 5 years ago. And I'm into looong baths, 2 hours. I never want to get out because I hate being cold.

I shower with a spa shower head, I can change the spray of the water with a quick turn. I use a mesh thingy with shower gel (I'm allergic to something in bar soap). I would love a hot bath to help me relax, but my tub isn't good for baths.
Rainbowzz: I use a shower stool when I shave since my ankle can't handle all my weight. They are a great investment. I've been using mine for about 9 months now. I only had to use a cast cover twice and that was right after I broke it and was in a plaster splint.

I shower, since bathing seems like I'd be sitting in my own filth

I shower the majority of the time and take a bath only a few times a year. I use those mesh sponges and I also have an exfoliating glove I use a few times a week. I also have a brush with a long handle because I can't reach my back because of my frozen shoulder problem. I rinse my hair at the end with cold water - helps make the hair smoother.

I'm glad you mentioned this Indie. If I do take a bath I wash the lower half 1st in the shower. Many women aren't aware that bathing can cause UTI's from the lower half contaminating the water. Also bubble baths and perfumed stuff in the water can cause it too. So it's best to wash the lower half before and use plain epsom salts.

Haha Babysteps. I alternate baths with showers. Washing my hair happens in the shower every other day because my hair is so long and thick that it takes a day or 2 to get dirty. On bath days 4t gets piled on top of my head. Havd a big pile of washcloths so I can use a fresh one everyday. Use a gentle bar soap. I rinse off in the shower even if it is bath day. Scrub my feet with a loofa because I go barefoot a lot.

I usually shower, but I enjoy the occassional long hot soak in the tub. I'm a little phobic about bacteria so although I like those mesh puffies, I really only use them once in a while. Which translated means when I remember to move it from the dryer back to the shower.

Thanks for all your responses! I didn't expect to come back here to find so many.
![]() I love baths, but haven't taken one since probably my teens, because my OCD doesn't like the sitting in my own filthy water thing, plus I can't keep the bathtub as clean as I'd want it for a bath. Too much work. When I have used the mesh sponges, I wash them (in the washer) and dry them (in the dryer, obviously) between each use. Thing is, they say you're supposed to throw them away after a month, but I would have a hard time keeping track of which ones I've owned for a month and which I haven't. I wouldn't mind investing in a shower chair. Truth is, I'm so fat, I get tired of standing; besides, the mat slips around. I would really love one of those luxury walk-in showers with a seat. I like plenty of room to move around.

From my understanding, any plastic chair will work as long as it fits safely(and doesnt "slip around" on the floor - I bet you could modify a white plastic lawn chair with those nonslip floor pads on each leg! or even some sort of old wooden (but treated wood or something) chair.
I don't see anything wrong with getting a shower chair just for the sake of enjoying a shower. Yeah they are made for someone disabled, but showers, if you enjoy them for them, are no different than any other form of pampering! You would buy yourself a foot spa if you liked that sort of thing, why not a shower chair for when you just want to relax in the shower? ![]() |

Generally showers, but I love reading or listening to music in the bathtub. Makes me wish the tub would expand and I could start swimming around, though.

I take baths, because, mainly, the shower fixture to our bath tub desn't work well. Besides, with all the driving, my shoulders get knotted up, and nothing seems to release the tension like a good soak.
Lynn: Yep, that's why I don't use soap on the nether reagions (I figure the warm/hot water and what soap gets there from the rest of the bath is enough). Soap can also make yeast infections more of a problem becuase it can irritate the membranes and leave small sores that spread the yeast. On baths and filth, I soak first and then soap up and rinse off at the end. Works great espcially if I have shaved or used a body or face scrub. Oh yeah, I use a brush. A good stiff one, even a nail brush if I can find it. Can't say I have oversensitive skin ![]() |

I'm an odd ball. I hate showers and baths, hate it. Every time I get ready to take one, a panic attack hits me flat. Its a fight some days to get one, literally. Its such a big challenge and some days I just can't do it.
