You got me again (((ruffy)))!---In Nursing school, we were not allowed to wear any jewelry------I used to put my bangle bracelet (only jewelry I really ever wear, it's been passed onto the firstborn female of each generation--very, very old; was told it was Phoenecian) in my nursing shoe...

imagine the blisters I got------but back to being a nurse---

You have to be careful about anything you wear, loads of Dementia, and Cardiac patients, and ETOH withdrawals etc..-they grab onto it and can hurt you.

I was leaning over a patient one night and the man in the next bed bit my bottom!!!

I still have a scar. But it's funny......................Better safe than sorry!!--theo
Thanks for this!

Another nurse here!
I have my ears pierced (3 times each - I let the 4th holes close up because they weren't even). My nose - only ever wear a tiny gem stud in it (patients seem to like it lol). I just got my belly button done for the 3rd time (it keeps growing out - if it doesn't stay put this time I'm not trying again!). I'd love to get my tongue pierced but worked with a max fax consultant who was doing an informal study on the damage they (and lip / mouth piercings) do to teeth and gums - not pretty.
I have 3 tattoos, each of them have been well thought out and are all in places that they can only be seen if I choose to show them. I'm planning on getting a 4th tattoo soon, after spending nearly 4yrs looking for the exact one I want on me for the rest of my life.

When I was training we were only allowed to wear one pair of gold studs in our ears and other piercings and visable tattoos were expected to be removed or well covered. I wouldn't wear sleepers or any sort of dangly earings now for the same reason I won't wear anything around my neck that doesn't easily break - too many confused patients make random grabs! (I'm sorry you got bitten Theadora, hope you managed to laugh about it, I'm guessing they didn't have false teeth if you ended up with a scar - ouch. A friend and I were rebandaging a conf pts arm when she decided to bash us both over the head with her plaster then try and choke me while she nearly gave my friend a mastectomy - wow those little old ladies know how to pinch!!)

I do self harm but none of my piercings / tattoos have ever been done for that reason, mainly because by the time I found something I wanted the urge would have passed.
Splitz
Thanks for this!

I have my nose pierced, 5 times in my ear, and most recently, my tragus. Sure, I'm only 15, but this isn't a rebellious thing to me (though I do love when people ask me about my piercings and flinch when I describe the procedures of being pierced!)

I love when people look at me like when I take my bellybutton ring out. I have never found removing a piercing particularly gruesome, but hey, if it freaks people out, I'll do it...

I have 6 piercings not including my ears, i also have 4 tattoo`s one of which covers my back from the middle down.
I must admit that my piercings where done mostly as a release for myself when i was younger. I wouldnt say in a self harm way ... well maybe i dont know i just know i felt i could breathe after it .
My tattoo`s on the other hand are a story of my life , all done in japanese drawings and wording. I`m about to get my next tattoo on my thigh as i have another story to tell type thing.
All my tattoo`s mean something to me and they are beautiful .

I only have one. My wife's favorite picture of us done as a portrait. More permanant than a wedding ring - sort of like our marriage. Oh hey! Just realized, it is the first picture in my album on my profile.

I have wanted to get a color tatoo on my arm. I keep putting it off because of money. But I would wait to get the drawing just right. For me, it would be symbolic. I had to move away from home (Florida) when I was young. The pain in my heart runs deep for that place (my true home) and I miss everything about the climate there. I would like to get a botanical drawing of either oranges and foliage or night blooming jasmine. It's nice to just think about.

I have my cartiliage in my right ear pierced. I got this done a couple of years ago and have thought about taking it out and letting it grow shut but then again I think about it and think hey it is what it is and I like it. I wear a fake diamond stud in it and when I wear my hair back I get compliments in my choice of ear rings.

I was told by my family that I was the last person they thought to get it done.

I only have one tat but I want another one really badly. It has been 6 years since my last one. I love the one I have. It signifies the best days of my life in college with my friends. It is in a secret location and no one knows I have it if I don't tell. In fact, my parents still don't know I have it and I am 29. They would freak and treat me like a child so there is no point in bothering them with it. That's the problem with getting another one. I don't really want it to be hidden, but, OH, am I gonna get it from them. Isn't it sad that I still worry what my folks think... Any way, if I get another I will have to decide what I want. And where it will be. Something with flowers for sure. And maybe the inside of my wrist. It took me 3 years to decide on what my other would be. I don't take it lightly. When I decide I will know it is the right tat for me.

Sorry guys, but when I get waited on in a store I want to work with someone I can stand to look at. One guy had 3-4 piercings and serveral tattos. It was the tongue, eyebrow and lip piercings that made me want to flee the store and throw up. I will never, unless an emergency buy or use things by the folks who are heavily into this stuff. One or 2 tats is OK. (not that you need my permission LOL)

And, no personal offence towards you nurses, I would be very uncomfortable having you take care of me and would probably ask the boss for someone else. It just does not look professional or CLEAN or SANITARY. I know you probably are but just because you are hearing only kind words here does not mean I am the only person to feel this way.

True and Cute Story. Jackie Kennedy didn't want JFK JR to do 2 things: fly or get a tatoo. Well, he did both. He got the world's smallest irish green sharock near his shoulder but down on his chest! I guess it was only one half inch or less. I thought he was clever. Of course maybe he should have listened to his Mother about the flying thing....

Also, many job interviewers and jobs themselves will not hire people with large visible tats. If I were EVER gonna get one it would be under and unseen by my co-workers in an office setting. Of course, if you're working construction and many other jobs then..... bipolarbearV Look For the Laughter!
