That was too funny the look on his face; I definitely noticed that. I felt badly for Green. Can you imagine the flack he'll get from fans? I have to say, I was routing for the US but England played better overall. It will be interesting to see where things go from here.

I missed the first couple of games b/c my tv died so someone is now recording them for me. I hadn't heard the vuvuzela until now and was surprised by its sound. I can see the love or hate response to it. It is unique. Is one of them just as loud as they all were together? They definitely made an impact. Being sound sensitive, I'm not sure I would appreciate hearing it all of the time.
Thanks for this!

Our Sunday newspapers almost only have soccer stuff in it with a little bit of other news! I wasn't impressed reading about the amount of tourists whose stuff was stolen from their hotel rooms so far. There's a rumour going around now that some expensive hotels ask the tourists not to go to the police and then pay the visitors back themselves. Anything to save South Africa's image...

Well, I'm just glad that there hasn't been any serious muggings or worse. 'Cos muggings for money, cell phones etc. has already happened. One poor Chinese guy was mugged for his cell phone while sitting on a toilet.

Last week a prostitution network in Cape Town was shut down by the police, 'cos they used girls under 18 years of age and they lured the poor girls to them by promising them babysitting jobs. This is always happening in SA, but more so now for the World Cup.

I really hope you don't have relatives or friends who are in South Africa for the World Cup that get harmed in any way.

Our own Charlize Theron are here and other well known people include John Travolta, Naomi Campbell, Prince Albert of Monaco, etc. We expect Prince William and Prince Harry from Britain and even the Kardashians!

Do you know what a WAG is? It's the British term for their soccer players' 'Wifes And Girlfriends'. Do Americans also use this term? Well, Victoria Beckham and all the other wags are also here, of course!

The Beckhams will be renting a house in Camps Bay, one of Cape Town's richest seaside suburbs! What's new!

My fear is that in another life I may come back as a WAG, OMG please no! Watching the World cup from my comfy UK armchair, I admire the Africans women not afraid to be real women, not the Barbie impersonations we so often find.

So sorry for the American family that were in Cape Town for the World Cup. They were climbing Table Mountain and their 14 year old son slipped and fell to his death. So, so tragic...

Slovenia 1
Algeria 0

Ghana 1
Serbia 0

Ghana is now the first African country in the World Cup to have won their game. You go 'Black Stars'!

It's now almost 8 PM in South Africa and I have to go to my coach in front of the TV to discuss the 8:30 game with my dad. We hope Germany wins it. Will miss seeing Michael Ballack!

What a great game Germany played! They can go far in this World Cup.

Germany 4
Australia 0

Great goals by Klose, Muller, Cacao and Podolski. I almost feel sorry for the 'Socceroos'.

Loved watching Ghana win!

Germany/Australia was an exciting match! I missed seeing Ballack on the field for Germany as well. I heard he attended the game but didn't see him on camera.

The Netherlands play Denmark tomorrow- looking forward to that.
Thanks for this!

Last night there was riots outside the Durban stadium. Workers were protesting for higher wages. I'm not sure who their employer is. Police had to use tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. Don't know how many tourists were around, as the Germany / Australia game was finished by then.

'Gauteng' is the name of the big metropolitan area that includes Johannesburg and Pretoria. SA had a new speedy train system put in place for the World Cup. It's called the 'Gautrain'. Now it seams that it's more popular than was expected and tourists are struggling to get tickets. More attendants and security are now needed and the train will have to make more frequent trips.

Really looking forward to the see the Netherlands playing and later on the Italians. The 'Azzuri' comes with the added benefit of some real sexy players! Fabio Cannovaro, Gennaro Gattuso....mmm....

Germany won a GREAT game! Those are my boys !
I must say I haven't heard too many of the tourist rumours, but no doubt they are around.
I dodn't watch the Durban game at the stadium last night, but at a fan park 500m away. The vibe was great, but the Vuvuzela's loud. The German's sure had a smile on their face. I believe the busses/public transport was not very timeous though, and many commuters had to wait a considerable amount of time to get their lift. I live in the area, and the road closures still totally confused me!
Thanks for this!

Hey, Sugahorse, I'm glad you enjoyed the Durban party spot. I must say that I am much too anxious to go to one of the Cape Town party spots. I would have loved to be there, but I am not good in crowds! Because of my General Anxiety Disorder, etc, which is very, very bad sometimes, I can't work at the moment and have to live with my parents. This makes me very sad, as I'm almost 40. But luckily I get along very well with my parents and I also feel much younger than 40.
At least I can now watch the games I want to watch and read everything in the newspaper to keep this site going during this month.
Thinking of you with all the road closings and vuvuzelas that you will still have to endure for a long time.

Hi there, soccer lovers!

Netherlands 2
Denmark 0

I think the Netherlands could have done even better. I enjoyed the game, but felt sorry for Poulson, who scored an own goal.

Japan 1
Cameroon 0

I rooted for Cameroon and I'm sorry they lost. Eto'o didn't have enough back up. And Japan played better than I thought they could.

Italy 1
Paraguay 1

Mama mia, Italy, what happened? The defending champions can play better than this. But I must say it was a very exciting game and Italy is known slow starters. The Paraguayans impressed me with their staying power.

(For the girls: There's this one guy, Camoranezi, who I find not real good looking, but again very sexy. Strange that one can never explain sexiness! But in the Paraguay team, Roque Santa Cruz was the most attractive to me!)

Last night with the Italy / Paraguay game, it was very cold (7 degrees Celsius) with terrential rain in Cape Town. The spectators must have been freazing and so drenched, but it didn't dampen their spirits!

The Green Point stadium(Cape Town) opened late, 'cos of a security guard strike. There was a wage dispute, but the police brought in more policemen to do the security guards' work for the night. In Jo'Burg there was a bus drivers' strike. They claimed they have to work longer hours than was arranged with Fifa. Why don't Fifa just employ more people? Poverty is so high in SA. But I guess it's not that easy. Oh yes, before I forget, R100 000 was robbed from a Uruguayan soccer player's hotel room and later on R64 000 mysteriously reappeared! I wonder who sponsered the money?

I read in the papers the spirit at the Cape Town Airport was great as the tourists from Italy, Brazil, Chili etc arrived. But of course there is huge frustration on the roads when people are held up on their way to games. But even still most people stay in the spirit and wave their flags! But I saw on TV a reporter talking to an American guy stuck in traffic. There was absolutely no movement on the road at that time. The man said something like: 'This is the worst organisation of an event I've ever seen!'

I'm looking forward to the Portugal / Ivory Coast match. Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing, but not sure yet if Didier Drogba will play with his broken arm problem. He said he would definately play later on with an arm sling! That sexy Ivorian guy, who plays for Chelsea, is so big, strong and talented. I wouln't be surprised if he played while having a broken foot!

Tonight Brazil against North Korea. Already feeling sorry for the Koreans!

The New Zealand/Solavkia match was exciting, with that late goal! Watching the Portugal/Côte d'Ivoire match right now- should be a good match. Not a big Ronaldo fan but he's a good player.

The Brazil/North Korea match will be a slaughter... poor Koreans indeed. But, hey, who knows... it's the World Cup, so there could always be an upset, although the chances are very, very, very slim I think we've seen a few big name teams under preform so far, which has made it an interesting start.

Glad you like the pictures! There are a lot of very beautiful ones, I love seeing all the fans and getting to see South Africa.
Thanks for this!

I didn't watch the New Zealand / Slovakia match, but Fenrir says it was exciting!

New Zealand 1
Slovakia 1

I was cheering for Portugal in the Portugal / Ivory Coast game. It was so evenly matched and with the pressure of the 'Group' of Death' on the players' shoulders, and Ronaldo and Didier Drogba being marked, I think it's no wonder nobody could score a goal. What did you think of the match, Fenrir?

Portugal 0
Ivory Coast 0

'Ek hoop daar is 'n fees van doele vanaand!' In Afrikaans that means: 'I hope there is a feast of goals tonight!'

Oh yeah, I thought the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in P.E. is beautiful. It does look kind of like a sunflower, like the the guy on TV said!

New Zealand scored int he last minute of added time, it was pretty crazy. Good for them!

Going into today's matches, I thought Portugal had the edge and would probably win- Côte d'Ivoire proved me wrong. I wasn't cheering for either team in particular, but I was a little disappointed in Portugal's game- thought they underperformed, and like I said, I was expecting the win to go to them.

I've heard a lot of interesting chatter about the footballs they've been using, too- some players have complained that it's odd or something they're not used to. I'm hoping we'll see less standstills and draws, a feast of goals sounds good to me!

The match I'm really looking forward to is Spain/Switzerland tomorrow. The Spanish squad is great, and my money is on them to take the entire thing. Torres is always a treat on the field, I know he said he'd like an England/Spain final so that he could play against Gerrard (his teammate on Liverpool).
Thanks for this!

'Noord-Korea, julle het my verstom!' Afrikaans for 'North-Korea, you astonished me! Where was the feast of goals, Brazil? I can't believe the score!

Brazil 2
North Korea 1

Everybody is talking about this World Cup's soccer ball. It looks like it flies up too high in the air or something. Well, it's a Fifa ball, so luckily they can't critisize South Africa for this!

Yes, Fenrir, I'm also looking forward to seeing Spain. Wonderful team. I also think they've got a good chance of winning the Cup. Not so sure about Brazil anymore!

Hey soccer lovers, where are your opinions? This is not my site, it's for everyone who follows the World Cup! If you disagree with me on anything, I want to hear what you have to say. I find different opinions interesting. And I want to learn more.

As Fenrir says: The World as One!

My jaw was dropped the entire game- I was expecting Brazil to slaughter North Korea! The North Koreans certainly played a lot better than anyone expected... apparently this was the most mismatched game in World Cup history, in terms of worldwide rankings. Who knew they could hold Brazil to a one goal lead- I honestly didn't think they'd score anything. I don't think anyone really did.

Just goes to show you... expect the unexpected this World Cup!

Don't be shy, other World Cup followers!

What I really love about the World Cup is seeing the following even here at home- Canada has a rubbish team, but nearly everyone I know is following the World Cup. Downtown a lot of the cars have flags on them, with everyone supporting a different country. It's fun to crowd into a sports pub and talk football, with everyone wearing a different colour, with a different flag, but everyone getting along and placing their bets.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for your commentary, Eljay, I've enjoyed reading it and have learned a lot. I am GLUED to the TV and try to restrict myself to watching only 2 per day. I check the FIFA site all the time as well.
North Korea put in a truly amazing performance. They were so organized and persistent. Brilliant that they scored against Brazil. It will be interesting how Portugal and Ivory Coast do against them. The match today was so very gentlemanly and sportsmanlike, which is great to see.
I love the national anthems - did you see the Korean striker weeping with emotion?
I think soccer does more to bring the world together than the G20 with its high cost and political posturing.
Thanks for this!

I agree Harrietgate, soccer brings people together! I thought it was beautiful seeing that Korean guy crying with pride and being overwhelmed by the occasion.

People are being warned against sites on the Net promising people tickets. Fifa says these sites don't have any tickets to sell.

I read that European TV stations are putting measures in place to soften the sound of vuvuzelas on TV so that commentary can be better heard. But 40 000 vuvuzelas have been sold in England! Apparently there's also an Anti-Vuvuzela site on Facebook.

Well, I'm in Cape Town and we have snow on Table Mountain! Doesn't happen that often. Lots and lots of snow in the rest of the Cape Province. We also had lots of rain. Very cold winter by our standards!
This tourist on TV said that he thought SA is always warm, so he brought only summer clothes! Duh! How's the weather with you Sabrina and Sugahorse?
