I accessed my bank account only to notice that I had become considerably, and I mean considerably richer
 I immediately phoned the bank to inquire about this deposit. They maintained that I had closed an investment and it was the proceeds from that investment. I maintained I don't have any investments. Now that would be nice. Anyway, I left it in their hands to investigate and they finally came back to me to say that the incorrect bank account number had been used and the deposit would be reversed. No apologies and certainly no thanks for my honesty. Oh well, it was nice to be rich for a few hours.

I would point out to them that an apology would be nice and a reduction of a month's worth of any fees you normally pay as you can always go to another bank if they're going to prove to be so sloppy in the future

aw shucks. They would have found it sooner or later (like when the person obtaining the deposit wondered where it was, or began bouncing checks. doh)
I just checked to make sure my investment deposit went into MY account!

Good for you for being honest and proactive. They would have found the error eventually. But really when did a little common curtesy kill a bank - oh wait never mind, foreign concept, they've never tried it.
