Does anybody else hate this?

I find it rude and creepy... why would you even want to sit next to someone, when you can sit alone?

And while in general, I have no problems starting conversation in train or on bus, a book or magazine I read, or headphones placed in my ears should be a good indication that I DON'T WANT TO TALK.
Thanks for this!

I also prefer to sit alone and hate it when someone chooses to sit next to me when there are plenty of open seats.

I think some people are afraid to make their own choices, "decide" where to sit, prefer to sit where someone else is sitting so no one will question their choice, get angry at them and, they have an excuse, "well, she did it first!" I feel a little sorry for them, they're more anxious than I am and, like you say, try to make conversation, I think so they don't feel as "alone" and can identify and connect with their allies, there's more safety in numbers you know :-)

I think it can be kind of creepy though too, and annoying (and, for me, embarrassing because I try to snub them and feel badly for it or at least do minimal talking and then resent it/them). I hate having to sit next to someone else, always choose the empty seats, as I'm afraid they'll reject me, get up and move or be rude, etc.

Annoying and very, very creepy. I will usually get up and move somewhere else if I can. I hope they don't feel too badly when I move, but it is just too creepy for me. I don't like talking to strangers (in person, lol) unless I have to.

I hate it when people sit next to me when there are other seats available not next to anyone. It triggers my PTSD especially if I get blocked in. UGH. I was in the library the other day and someone came up behind me and sat in the computer carrel right next to me even thought there were only like three people in the whole library. If they had gone over one more there would have been one between me and the other person in the unit. It left me totally triggered for the rest of the day. Plus I had to listen to the person typing which kept reminding me he was there.

when it's in bus where I have a heavy bag or in library where I have to move along with all books and my laptop, it's pain in the backside...

And once I did this, when I was writting sorta personal e-mails and did not want nobody looking over my shoulder and the guy asked if I moved because he's black...

I would freak if someone sat next to me if I went out or when I travelled. I had a very bad thing happen to me on a train, I was sexually assaulted and came off very badly. Now I make sure even on an airplane that I am sitting alone...that can get expensive but at least I feel safer...
