Let me know if you find a happy ending...I could use one about now, too...

Why can't life be like a sweet, sappy romantic comedy???!!!!

I think there's a misconception about happiness. Some get misguided into thinking everything has to be perfect in order to be happy.......like "I'll be happy when ------- happens or Ill be happy if ---------". I think we need to look for the little joys and grab onto those and accept that it doesn't have to be 100%, in order to feel some happiness. I realize though that psychological illness can cloud a person's happiness.

I'm not sure I believe in happy endings. But I do believe in better endings, and I believe our choices and actions can influence those endings. Even though my life is rather messed up at the moment and has been simply dreadful for a couple of weeks, it's still infinitely better than it was on Christmas Day 2006 when I was in hospital detoxing and the Dr.'s were afraid I was giong to have a heart attack or stroke out. I've had lots of ups and downs since then, with lots of relapses, but since january 2007 I've been sober more than I've been drunk and that's saying something. I know I'll get another job. I'm getting good psychiatric care. And I know I have the ability to start over. People looking at my life right now probably wouldn't see a happy ending (no job, no car, forced meds, and lots of AA meetings) but I see a good beginning.

We have some control over endings if for no other reason than how we choose to view them.
Thanks for this!
