Does anyone have any successful stories of how they got rid of destructive porcupines?

Someone I know is having issues with them and doesn't have the money to get an animal relocator there to move it for them. We do know that sometimes it takes shooting them but would rather not go down that road.

Thanks for your help!

Not much help considering your friend can't afford it , but very informative.

Same way 2 porcupines make love...very carefully. Seriously though, you might want to call a humane society and see if they can trap them.

Instead of hiring someone to come out and set the trap, then remove it - could they rent or buy a trap? I wonder is there a wild rescue organization that would help your friend out? If they know where the porcupines are living - make sure they block those areas - like in shed, under decks and any place they would call home.

I would have suggested what Lynn did. Here we have local wildlife parks and they will send staff out to trap them and release them. If the animals are injured or unwell they nurse them back to health.

Good luck with this

If you're in the US, your county should have an animal control department that specializes in removing wild animals (humanely when possible).

Just trying to help as usual and NuckingFutz is closer, sane version follows:

Trapping could be worse! What happens when a porcupine lover comes to set it or it's spirit FREE??? Ask yourself just who is bothering who...

I would check out animal control and see what they can do, if you have that service out you way. Otherwise: Joy of Cooking has an excellent section on dressing and cooking porcupine along with helpful and informative pictures for your cooking pleasure. Enjoy! Huggs and good luck, seriously!

hmmmm.....I never ate porcupine before. I wonder how it tastes?? Like chicken???

I've eaten beaver, bear, moose, elk, wild turkey, deer, squirrel, an array of birds, snake, turtle hmmmm...other stuff I can't think of right now. Oh yeah, wild rabbit as well. All really good if cooked properly. Interesting thought!

I bought a humane trap hoping to trap the coyote here but all I caught were raccoon. The trap was only $40.

I found you this yummy recipe -

Marinated Porcupine Chops

6 Porcupine chops
3 Fingers coltsfoot salt
1 qt Maple sap
2 sm Wild onions
4 Wild leeks

Pour the sap in a birch bark container or other non-metallic
container. Cut up the onions into small pieces and add to the sap.
Place the porcupine chops one at a time into the solution, placing
one wild leek between the chops. Let stand overnight in a cool
place. In the morning grease the stone griddle with fat and remove
the chops from the marinade and fry on the griddle. Serve on hot
cornmeal cakes.

How to get rid of a porcupine?

Lol maybe call a local animal shelter and ask them for some help. Or pest control and ask them what they do with the animals they catch. :3
