I know this may not be what you post on here but:

RIP to the 29 miners that died this afternoon at the Pike River Mine, Greymouth, New Zealand, after being trapped in a mine for 6 days due to a massive explosion.

We all hoped you would come out alive after that 1st explosion...we never lost hope in any of you!! Then the next explosion came this afternoon and it was confirmed that there were no survivors.

The youngest was 17 - his very 1st day in the mine and the explosion came. the oldest was 62.

KiaKaha.

The whole nation is thinking of you.

I do hope that all of you guys think of the families grieving for their husbands/sons/partners/dads.

RIP !!!

This is too hard to even take in, 29 souls lost.

So so sad. Terrible news.

One at the start of life just 17 years old while others leaving children fatherless.

Yea, one of them was a family friends dad. I think it is affecting pretty much the whole nation here. We are so small, everyone knows someone who knows someone.

I feel for this man...
(extract from article)

"Pike River chief executive Peter Whittall was watching CCTV footage when he saw something which will forever change his life and those of hundreds of others -- a second explosion in the Pike River mine, this one not survivable.

Mr Whittall had given many of those who died their jobs, and had worked alongside some of them, so it was fitting that he gave their families today's devastating news.

"It was hard obviously," the former miner said.

"But it was my task and I wanted to tell the families."

"All of the other things that people were saying we should try possibly could have but I'm absolutely confident that the measures that were taken up there by the rescue teams and by all the men on site were absolutely correct and absolutely right and, to the best of my knowledge, absolutely nothing that was being done up there has caused this."

Mr Whittall's family embraced him when the press conference concluded and the officials and media gathered clapped him out of the room -- something very rarely seen."

thank you AddiPaddi, for making this personal for us. one shares in the shock and the feeling of loss, remembering all the ones who have been taken suddenly and without recourse, from us. this is a good time to be thankful for those who have loved us, living or not. best wishes,,, Gus
