I am not sure how many people may be familiar with this, but it is a rather fascinating concept about personality traits and functions. this isn't meant to find any disorders, it is used to find preferences in how we process information.

I'm not much of an expert on it but i'll try to explain a little. there are 16 types, starting with things like being:

Introverted or Extroverted, basically whether your the type of person who feels more refreshed spending time alone reading a book or if your the social butterfly that needs other people to be energized.

there is sensing or Intuiting, this ones pretty hard to distinguish, mostly if you like concrete facts, you use history and examples to base most your decisions, then your a sensory type person, if you have "gut" instincts that normally lead you, than your an intuiting.

Then there is also Thinking and feeling, then finally judging and perceiving.

I'll include a link if anyone wants to take a short quiz to see what it's all about, anyone who is interested I'll share what I know but I am not very good with it. I've read up on it a lot and while I find it fascinating like all of psychology it is not an exact science.

Still it is a fun way to pass the time and many people gain insight into themselves in the process. It is starting to become much more popular in american culture at the moment, so if you have a few minutes to spare I encourage you to check it out.

guess I can't post direct links, sorry about that, I wonder if that means my other post didn't go through.. huh.. hopefully i haven't broken a rule sidestepping the issue like that, if you copy and paste it will take you to the site

Your other link did go through as direct and I don't know why this one didn't. You could press edit and type it in again if you wish. I know it doesn't go through if you're typing in a color. Thanks for link, I'll try it out.

I find this really intersting too Chaosrob, I don't quite understand all of it, and would love to read more on it when I have the time, I find Carl Jung to be a fasincating mind! I've taken this test several times since my first psychology course in high school where we took it and I always get ENFP the Journalist or ENFJ the Teacher

I'll post my results...I got the ENFP this time, I'm going to post the one from the site you gave and the other discription I found on wikipedia

Similar Minds site description:
Outgoing, social, disorganized, easily talked into doing silly things, spontaneous, wild and crazy, acts without thinking, good at getting people to have fun, pleasure seeking, irresponsible, physically affectionate, risk taker, thrill seeker, likely to have or want a tattoo, adventurous, unprepared, attention seeking, hyperactive, irrational, loves crowds, rule breaker, prone to losing things, seductive, easily distracted, open, revealing, comfortable in unfamiliar situations, attracted to strange things, non punctual, likes to stand out, likes to try new things, fun seeker, unconventional, energetic, impulsive, empathetic, dangerous, loving, attachment prone, prone to fantasy

And here is the wikipedia description:
ENFPs are initiators of change, keenly perceptive of possibilities. They energize and stimulate others through their contagious enthusiasm. They prefer the start-up phase of a project or relationship, and are tireless in the pursuit of new-found interests. ENFPs are able to anticipate the needs of others and to offer them needed help and appreciation. They bring zest, joy, liveliness, and fun to all aspects of their lives. They are at their best in situations that are fluid and changing, and that allow them to express their creativity and use their charisma. They tend to idealize people, and can be disappointed when reality fails to fulfill their expectations. They are easily frustrated if a project requires a great deal of follow-up or attention to detail
Thanks for this!

there is an abundance of information about these personality types on the internet, I recently was participating in a forum dedicated to the whole Jung typology method.

It is a useful tool in learning how we react to certain things, I personally have not been able to get very far with it because my over active Thinking function blocks me from being able to tell where my other preferences lie. Still I see no harm coming from sharing this type of thing with others.

I'm glad to find people interested in it. I have several e-books related to the subject i believe, but there are ethical implications involved in sharing them. not that that bothers me but I've been slacking on reading the forum rules... lol i'm such a rebel right?

I got ISFJ. The weird thing is, every time I take this test I get a slightly different result. My feeling vs. thinking, for example, was 51% to 48%. That's pretty close. I think parts of it may depend on your mood when taking the test. Still, I always liked personality tests and have fun taking them.

The most accurate personality test I ever took was actually some kind of astrology based test. I don't believe in astrology at all, but I was surprised how accurate it was. Then again, it could have just been one of those tests that was worded to sound specific to everyone.

Thanks, chaosrob. There seem to be several of these Jung typology tests available online. We recently had a thread in the Psychotherapy forum, Jung Typology Test, about another one which turned out not to be my personal favorite. I'll check out your link later on when I have time to actually try the test.

As I recall, you have to have 10 posts to your credit before you can successfully post links or URLs. If you try before you have 10, the forum software will simply stop you and remind you -- no rules actually broken. You seem to have cleared that hurdle by now (Welcome to PC!)

I just took it again, and I scored as an INFJ. Supposedly that's the rarest of all types. I read the description of it and it does sound a lot more like me then the ISFJ

This turns out to be a different version of the test from any I've taken before. Once again, I got a different result. Two different results, actually -- I noticed that my T/F score was tied (50% each) so I clicked Reload as instructed to see the other interpretation.

First result:
Introverted (I) 56.25% Extroverted (E) 43.75%
Sensing (S) 54.05% Intuitive (N) 45.95%
Thinking (T) 50% Feeling (F) 50%
Perceiving (P) 60.53% Judging (J) 39.47%

Your type is: ISTP
Accuracy: [I gave it a 4]

ISTP - "Engineer". Values freedom of action and following interests and impulses. Independent, concise in speech, master of tools. 5.4% of total population.
I'm not a real engineer but the things I engineer don't seem to know the difference.

Second result for the same answers and scores:
Your type is: ISFP
Accuracy: [I gave it a 2]

ISFP - "Artist". Interested in the fine arts. Expression primarily through action or art form. The senses are keener than in other types. 8.8% of total population.
I can write, after a fashion, and photograph, but I can't draw, paint or sculpt for ****.

The result I got on a different test nine years ago, and still remember fondly, was INFP. The result I got on the test WePow linked to was INTJ. The only place I haven't been yet is E (which happens to be fine with me).

yea there are many different types of tests, I think if someone is really interested in it and reads up on it they can become more solid in what they believe to be their preferences. But there are those of us who are borderline when it comes to preferences and we may never be able to say with certainty which way it really is for us.

I dunno, I have talked to a lot of people about the whole MBTI thing, it's a really cool concept and is able to help people understand themselves a bit better, but me I'm so over analytical I can't see the forest for the trees ya know? like can't stop thinking long enough to just accept the results

I'm very much an INFP. It hurts me when others don't seem to care about making the world better as much as I do. I feel disgusted with a lot of them. I see them as very selfish. The best example for me is recycling. Soo many people say they don't have the space to save a few cans or bottles or paper. Bull! If someone PAID them to store something in their homes, they'd find a way. They just don't care about anything outside of their own little world. I can't really respect someone who can't make such a small effort to be good to our planet. Really, really upsets me, & makes it hard to find friends. Even when I've offered to help them recycle, they don't want to "bother". What if Mother Nature didn't want to "bother" to give you any more resources????????
