"The Society of American Florists figures that 80 percent of all cut flowers sold in this country come from somewhere else."

That one was about where all the flowers had gone, not where they came from.

I love flowers almost as much as I love animals. But the flowers I like best are not cut; they're just about everywhere: gardens, parks, tree lawns, hanging from baskets hung on light poles. Something is beautiful, blooming, or green almost 12 months a year here if people know where to look. One of my joys is hunting for flowers and trees in their seasons just to look, smell and enjoy. But no cutting!
