You know how cynical I am but...I have nothing against Valentine's and do believe in love. With that said, here are some demotivators for Valentine's.

In the spirit of Valentine's here are some songs about love...and not in the good way Breakups and whatnot too. Here's just a few and I encourage others to add their own.

Hey Dragon you might want to add a warning that some of these might not be suitable for all people. I am okay with the obscene language that doesn't bother me but the fourth link down, Guns N Roses, I used to love her, but I had to kill her... I don't know how others PC folks are but I killed my abusive BF in self defense and that song is tough for me to hear. Okay?

I think I will join the crowd of anti-valentines day. I think its only fine for people who have a happy relationship and I don't think they have to spend money to express their love for each other. Sometime I feel sorry for the men because there's too much pressure on them to fullfill the expectations of their partner on the that day. I think the main winners are the companies that push for this day. I hate the way they raise the prices on roses that will die in 2 days. I wonder how many fights and unfulfilled expectations happen on this day. Wow my pesimism is showing - not a very smiley cat ATM, am I lol.

Since I do have a good marriage and friends right now, I like Valentine's Day! However, I got a hoot out of a lot of these, and I can understand your sentiments! Happy V-D to everyone!

I like Valentine's day. It's about love -- love for everyone! And of course the delicious, delicious candy...

"From Feb. 13 to 15, the Romans celebrated the feast of Lupercalia. The men sacrificed a goat and a dog, then whipped women with the hides of the animals they had just slain."

Yes, sounds like a great tradition we should keep and celebrate in 21st century.

And while I am happy for Payne's marriage, it doesn't really have anything to do with Valentine's day or being anti-valentine. I was poking fun on the commercial aspect of the holiday. Love has nothing to do with this holiday... and I hope that my future partner will understand that bad quality "chocolate" (according to the EU standarts chocolate has to contain at least 35% of cocoa. I dare you to check info in these heart shapped things), flowers with huge carbon footprint or stuffed animals made in sweatshops.

For me, being cynical of our highly consumerist society, Valentine's (as Venus pointed out) has little to do with the actual intent of what the holiday was intended for but has rather become a sorry commercial excuse. I have nothing against love, or couples, or relationships (in fact I truly believe that love is a very real achievable concept) but I do have a cynical grudge against most major holidays. Valentine's included.

Well... the article I linked to says:

Pope Gelasius I muddled things in the 5th century by combining St. Valentine's Day with Lupercalia to expel the pagan rituals. But the festival was more of a theatrical interpretation of what it had once been. Lenski adds, "It was a little more of a drunken revel, but the Christians put clothes back on it. That didn't stop it from being a day of fertility and love."

So maybe that is what the original intent was...

Lost me on "herd mentality" so I had to look up the meaning. When I read what it means, I did a giant DUH on me.. I should be embarrassed that I didn't know, but I've b een "red faced" a lot lately, so another one would not matter..
