I wish i could help but unfortunately although i live in the uk my diagnosis is not recognised as the long term substantially disabling one it is. This means i have to save every penny i get so eventually i will be able to buy the adaptions i need to get me upstairs to my bedroom , the only toilet and bath/wash room in my home! until such times i am spending my nights either sleeping on my livingroom floor in a sleeping bag or spending over an hour hauling myself upstairs backwards on my bum to sleep on a matress on my bedroom floor because i am unable to pull myself up onto my bed!
I do however hear your plight and send you good wishes for a better future xx

Calista, I wish I could help you. I'm also on disability, single, and trying to keep my home which is increasingly needing repairs, and no money for them. Sending you well wishes instead.

I will pray for her and her family. I truly understand the situation. I have been off work since Oct 2007 and my husband and I have lost everything we had owned due to my many physical and mental issues. We are now living in a camper in a swamp, with no income. My husband can not find work either due to his age and a physical condition. We are still trying to get SSD/I with the assistance of a 'Federal Attorney', we are now on round 5 of the appeal stage, round 6 being the supreme court. We are barely getting by on food stamps and medical assistance with the charity of others. Things are so bad for us to, that we must wash our clothes by hand with vinegar (food stamps does not buy soap) and toilet paper is a luxury item. I hope she and her family can hang in there with the rest of us. Many Blessings to them. In Florida where we live, Cash assistance is not available unless you have minor children in your home, our son is grown and lives on his own in another state. We see so many folks here (even families with children) living in tents and cars. It is such a sad world we live in, when so many homes and buildings are empty and the govt is paying farmers to NOT grow food. No one should ever have to go to bed hungry or sleep in a box. I pray for all those in the world who are suffering. I consider ourselves lucky to have a camper to live in and food in our bellies. Many blessings to all.

I wish you the best. Here's a few dollars from me. Granted, I can barely afford anything myself but I believe karma will come back to me. Good intentions are rewarded. You are in my thoughts.

Please don't send money that you can't afford. Yes Karma will smile on you! Thank you so much.
Thanks for this!

We will pray for you and your family also. Times are awful for so many people. I wish you much luck with your appeal.

Do we have a target to aim for? I'm glad I'm not in Japan.

I want to thank all of you -- and there was quite a few of you this time around!! -- for your generous donations and support of Calista. We raised the amount of our maximum donations for an individual grant - $500 total.

Also, just a reminder, if you haven't yet gained your Premier Poohbah status + badge (which gives you access to that private forum as well), drop me a PM as sometimes I either don't have your email address or the address I have doesn't correspond with the one here. Just leave me your real name to confirm your payment.

Thanks again for everyone's fantastic and wonderful support. I'm truly humbled by the outpouring of our community.

DocJohn
