Dearly departed products we miss :(

Clairol's Long and Silky hair conditioner. If I had tangles in my thick, coarse hair, which I prefer to keep long, all I'd have to do is give it a rinse with the Long and Silky, and then I could have used a fine tooth comb without hitting a snag.

They also made a Short and Sassy, but I never had reason to try that one.

PS: I have just seen that there is a shampoo nowadays called "Long and Silky," but it is not made by Clairol.

Miraclecorp Products makes it. For dogs.

I miss Herbalscences' Henna Shampoo, it was just the right thing to bring out the copper highlights in my hair.

I also miss the Body Shops, Henna Hair Paste, It was great for gently covering up my grey.

I miss Clairol's (I think that's who made it) Pazzazz tinted mousse. I used to use the copper color all the time to add some subtle highlights that would wash out with one shampooing. And it smelled so good!

I also miss those dark chocolate wafer cookies, the kind that you can layer with whipped cream (and then frost with more whipped cream - yum!) to make an easy and tasty dessert. I haven't been able to find those cookies for years.

Re: Cupcakes. All we've been able to get in our area forever and a day are cupcakes that have this very light, kind of nothing, swirled-up frosting. When I was under 10 cupcakes came with this thick, solid, hard, sugary frosting that was no joke. I remember waiting for the bakery man to drive down the street to make sure and advise mom that we needed more cupcakes so she wouldn't forget. (Priorities, priorities.) Does anyone out there still buy serious, hard sugar frosting cupcakes? Was there something wrong with them? Is what we get now supposed to be healthier? Cupcakes. One of early life's strong realities. Take care.

I used to really like angel food cake store mixes when they had one packet with the flour mix and another packet with the egg white mix. But they started selling it all as a single packet mix and it really ruined the texture of the cake. Instead of being light it was heavier and too sugary.

Same thing with StoveTop stuffing. What used to be decent stuffing in two packets is now not worth buying one packet stuffing.

No, I don't think I had a store-bought cookie (other than fig newtons) until I was in college!

I miss the original smell of some care products; I used Pantene shampoo when it first came out, nevermind that I couldn't afford it, but the smell was to die for and then they changed the formula and now all the different ones, like each hair needs it's own special blend, is exhausting to look through to just find a "regular" shampoo.

Really? My grandmother made the best angel food cakes and I asked her what her secret was and she showed me the box.

I have yet to try to make an angel food cake from scratch. It sounds like a lot of work getting ten egg whites to room temperature and all.

But it requires "cream of tartar"; do they even have that anymore?

I used to use cream of tartar. I hope they still have it.

Yes to both. I can buy both in many stores down here. (And just did actually.)

I miss Holiday Magic facial products. They were cherry based and not only worked well, they were a pretty pink (come on, I'm a girl ) and scented cherry.

Yes they do have cream of tarter---it's in the spice aisle.

You have to have it to make a decent meringue.

oh yea, and back in the late 70's they made Farrah Shampoo...it smelled SO good, and made my hair feather perfectly. Not that I want my pink spiked hair feathered....but I do miss the smell.

And theodora said: "You have to have it [cream of tartar] to make a decent meringue."

Now hold on a second here. If you're talking about meringue COOKIES you ONLY need egg whites and sugar. Maybe a lemon meringue pie needs cream of tartar. But meringue cookies don't. This is a subject that has interested me deeply since the age of three when I climbed the entire roster of kitchen cabinets to reach the Everest-like goal of THE COOKIE JAR way on top and full of fresh meringue cookies, my favorite. Ummm, as you might suppose from the great height at which the cookies were stored, they knew I was coming. Excelsior!

Take care!

What happened to Mallo Cups? I can't find them in stores for years but I did see they can be ordered online. But you have to buy 24 at a time.
