Just to show I can be serious... a few times when I poured liquid detergent directly on clothes, those clothes came out with permanent spots. Now I try to remember to start the water, then add the soap, and then the clothes after the water has diluted the soap a bit.

Yep, detergent can leave marks on clothes when applied directly, start the water first and then the soap and once it's diluted a bit, add the clothes.

You can use my laundry for practice if you need to...I have about 8 loads waiting

Used to pour the detergent on the clothes...my mom taught me that way....
When I started going to laundromats and reading the directions on the machines went the way of starting the water and pouring soap in first.

I still hate separating colors and whites at home - one thing that is easier at the laundromat - multiple machines at the same time!

I start the water running, put in my detergent, then add my clothes. This was they way my Mom did it when I was a kid and I guess I just adopted that.

Being single, I don't separate my loads either. If I did, I'd have very many, very small loads to do and that just takes too much time....so as long as it won't get destroyed in the wash, it all goes in together and I've never had an issue yet with ruining something from not separating.

I also wash my clothes in cold water....unless it's soiled with bodily fluids...then it gets the hot water. I'm not meaning to be gross here, but as a Nurse, you would be surprised at the yuckiness that gets on ones scrubs!! LOL!!

When I was working in open heart recovery the hospital didn't want us wearing uniforms from home to hospital because we could carry bacteria on clothes. We never knew when we would have to open a chest in the unit when somebody was crashing so we tried to minimize risk of infection. They supplied clean scrubs at the hospital which we put on when we arrived and left for the hospital laundry to wash at end of our shifts. We even had to keep separate work and home shoes.

so, you are telling us how to wash clothes? thanks!

I add the clothes, set the temp setting, put the money in the slots, slide the money in, after the water is about half way, I move the clothes aside, add the soap directly to the water and swish the water, then redistribute the clothes and swish it all around again to distribute the soap.

I put my clothes in and then put in soap and then start the water. I've never had problems with my clothes coming out with spots on them.

I have an energy efficient front load washer so there's only one way to do it. I put the detergent in the dispenser and when the washer starts loading water the soap goes down. Every so often I run the washing machine with nothing in it, with either bleach or some lysol to disinfect the machine.

I put the soap in the automatic tray, put clothes in and start the wash. The water automatically mixes with the soap.

i guess it depends on the machine, but manually seems like the way to do it by most is water/soap then clothes. just makes the most sense to me, good mix so all the clothes get the same treatment.

I put in the clothes, add the soap, then start the water. Everything comes out looking and smelling nice, so I don't think too much of it.
