Has anybody here ever had to live without a washing machine.
I have never had to live without on before. Living without one at the moment is having a serious affect on my mental health. If whoever reads this, be warned. If you move in to a house (loft flat/bedsit), with no washing machine and have a leaning toward OCD (like myself), be prepared. If one has leanings toward OCD, like myself it can really affect you're mental health.

I'm looking for a new home and i will have one soon and my family are going to buy me a washing machine straight away. At the moment i'm hand washing, and it is hard work when unprepared for it.You're hands have blisters and it takes almost a day to do it all.
What once was something i never thought about, has become the pointer toward why i am depressed. Being OCD was never a thing that i saw, i just was OCD. Now OCD is something that i recognise as a trigger to mental health well being.

All this over a washing machine, (lol, kinda). If ever anyone whom is a bit OCD. Moves home in to a small place, bear this in mind.

Yes, I had to live without one for three months once. I had to take the laundry plus my barely 3 year old son to the laundromat. It was such a HUGE pain! It's amazing, the things we take for granted, and then when they're gone, we realize how important they really are. I hope you can get a new home WITH a washing machine soon.

Is waiting there to hold and keep you
Welcome to the first day of your life

Just open up your eyes as I lay you down tonight
Safe on the other side
No more tears to cry

I also had to live with out a washing machine. I had to take my daughter who was less than a year old to the laundromat. I had a dryer, so when the clothes were done washing I had to lug them home wet to dry them. It was a pain and I was miserable!

My washer and dryer have not worked for about a year now. I go to my mom's house with garbage bags of dirty laundry a couple times a month. I have "house" clothes that I wear until they are filthy dirty because only my son and horse see me and I have "going out" clothes that I try to keep clean and only wear when I leave the house for errands and put my dirty "house" clothes back on when I return home.

My mom told me she would buy me a washer and dryer but first I need to hire an electrician and my disability income hasn't allowed me to do that yet. It is a major PIA I can say trying to do without but then I remember my grandmother didn't have electric or running water and washed clothes in a tub for years.

Yup. Living without one now because my anxiety is too high to let a repair man in the house. I hand wash some stuff, bring some to the laundromat (With Clorox wipes for before I put my clothes in) and some I have washed "by the pound" by a professional washing service... All so I don't have to let a service man into my house!!!

, back when people had no electric or fresh water. You're grandmother would say to me what mine would say.....'stop being a wimp and be glad you have hot water, and mobile phones and all the 21st century things we crave'.

Thanks for the reply..

I don't have OCD and not having a washing machine would be most unwelcome. I strongly dislike using public washing facilities. I would have looked for whatever I can fit into my space and afford. There are various options for a budget, from these emergency crank operated hand gadgets some people take for major car camping to various sizes and prices portable electric small washers for small apartments and studios.

I have lived a number of times without a washing machine. The bath always does the trick. You have to basically get in on top of the clothes and walk all over them, but you'd be surprised how much dirt you can actually get out of them. Of course it's no washing machine, but it's a lot cheaper than a laundromat.

I have had no washer, and no dryer, and OCD cleaning "issues". I had many big painful blisters from wringing out the jeans by hand, Glad it is over.

Yeah my grandparents didn't even buy toilet paper for the outhouse, we used pages out of catalogs.

My son freaks when the electric goes out when a power line is down. He is into everything tech and without internet/videogames/digital phone he has no idea how to entertain himself.

I could write a book about my stupid washing machine. It and I have a love/hate relationship!

The thing is over 20 years old and has probably had at least 20 service calls. One time I called the Maytag company and a repairman showed-up dressed in a suit, carrying a briefcase. He gingerly looked around in the washer and announced he didn't have any parts with him - I'd have to pay for an additional service call to get the washer repaired.

Then there's it's daily habit of jumping and sliding ALL OVER THE LAUNDRY ROOM. Nobody has ever been able to get the thing leveled. If I wash something like a bedspread, it'll nearly knock the walls down jumping around.

Recently I dropped some really nice sheets on the floor next to the thing intending to wash them next. I heard the monster making a particularly loud racket - it had sucked the edge of a pillowcase on the floor into the motor and ruined it. O.K., I'll take responsibility for that but who knew?

If you combine my husband's weird ideas about washing clothes with the thing's erratic behavior, problems like this happen - I bought a really pretty, really delicate white cotton blouse. I would have washed it in cold water with Woolite, it was that special. My husband somehow gathered it up with a load of his underwear, added his #1 favorite product on earth (Clorox), double-washed the load in hot water...and when I tried to lift my blouse out of the washer the collar dissolved in my fingertips!

I say OCD! My washing machine takes appliance dysfunctionality to a whole other realm!
